Chabot has an uncanny ability to play out of position without getting burned, and there aren't many qualified defensemen that have come close to matching his 10.1 shooting percentage. The scary part is that the 21-year-old might only be scratching the surface of his potential.

The young defenseman profiles as Erik Karlsson's eventual replacement but still must grow as a player before he can realistically be expected to fill the void left by No. 65. Chabot will likely sit in the preseason until coach Guy Boucher feels he's ready for game action, as Boucher is in no rush to get him on the ice, Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen reports.

Chabot is the Senators' brightest defensive prospect, and with Erik Karlsson gone, the 21-year-old will likely get every opportunity to show he can be a top-tier defenseman as he develops.
