The Chicago Blackhawks did not qualify five players including Theo Peckham. Peckham played 45 games with Rockford in 2013-14 but had spent a lot of time on the blueline for the Edmonton Oilers. Terry Broadhurst, Byron Froese, David Gilbert and Philippe Lefebvre also were not qualified.

Theo Peckham was placed on waivers by Chicago on Tuesday, according to Renaud Lavoie. The Blackhawks also waived Brad Winchester. They will probably be bound for the minors if they clear.

If it's true as RDS commentator Ren Lavoie tweets that Theo Peckham signed a two-way deal with the Chicago Blackhawks ($575,000 in the NHL), that is a $500,000 big gulp for the one-time Edmonton Oilers defenseman, writes The Edmonton Journal's Jim Matheson. Peckham made $1.075 million the past two seasons with the Oilers but last year the Oilers were so annoyed with Peckham for showing up at camp after the lockout not in the shape they wanted (they'd likely have been thrilled to have had him about 225 pounds, not 240 0r more no matter how much muscle was there), they traded for Dallas D-man Mark Fistric. Peckham has had issues with his calorie intake in the summer months, but he was a solid, workman when he played. Last year, the Oilers basically wrote him off however, dressing him for only four games even after he got into fighting trim through extra work. They didn't offer him a new contract and the Stanley Cup champion Hawks grabbed him but for barely more than the NHL minimum. He's likely lucky somebody signed him. This is not a good time to be unemployed with the salary cap coming down to $64.3 million.

Theo Peckham's one-year contract with the Blackhawks is worth $575,000, according to RDS' Renaud Lavoie. Peckham's deal is also a two-way contract and there's a good chance he'll bounce between the NHL and AHL next season with Chicago. Peckham has 17 points and 388 penalty minutes in 160 career games.

Theo Peckham signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks. The Edmonton Oilers decided against giving Peckham a qualifying offer, which made him an unrestricted free agent this summer. He only played in four NHL games last season, but has 17 points and 388 penalty minutes in 160 career contests.

Theo Peckham was disappointed to find out that the team wouldn't present him with a qualifying offer. Peckham only played in four games with the Oilers last season after reporting into training camp out of shape. "It's definitely tough. When I came into camp, I didn't think I was that out of shape," he said. "I was 245 (pounds) and my bike testing was the same as last year - some numbers were actually better - so was really confused in that sense, but that was the hole I dug. I guess they decided to move on without me." He's now eligible to test the unrestricted free agent waters.

Edmonton didn't give Theo Peckham a qualifying offer, so he'll be eligible for unrestricted free agency on Friday. He played in just four games for the Oilers during the lockout-shortened season and spent a fair amount of the year as a depth defender. Peckham fell out of favor the team's brass by showing up out of shape and being hurt at training camp.

Theo Peckham has an illness and will not play Tuesday night. Peckham has played in just three NHL games this season and was sent down to the AHL for a two-conditioning stint in February. He'll be replaced in the lineup Tuesday by Corey Potter.

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled defenseman Theo Peckham after a two-week conditioning stint with the AHL Barons. Peckham came to training camp in less than perfect shape after suffering a going injury just before camp. He did not think the lockout would end in mid-January. "I brought this on myself," Peckham said. "I don't think I'll have to worry about another lockout. What's the CBA? Another eight years. I'll be gone by then. I've got my weight down and it's up to them when I get a chance." Peckham contributes in the penalty minute category and had 29 penalty minutes in four games with Oklahoma City. He is a depth defenseman at this time and will be in the press box Thursday.
