While they have played much better recently, the Flyers' goaltending could still end up being their undoing. Mason has had two subpar months, with a .899 save percentage in December and .881 in January. Altogether, he has a 2.56 goals-against average and .915 save percentage, so it's obvious his hot start is giving him some cushion there. Ray Emery was a perfect five-for-five in relief.

Steve Mason suggested that he was to blame for Philadelphia's 4-3 shootout loss on Thursday. "The guys gave me two opportunities to win the game, and I couldn't do it," Mason said. "So I let them down tonight." It was a back-and-forth contest where no team ever had more than a one-goal lead. His teammates and Flyers coach Craig Berube didn't share in Mason's assessment that Thursday's loss was on him.
