Matthias (head) was on the ice for the Canucks' morning skate but remains questionable to play Tuesday versus the Canadiens, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports. Coach Willie Desjardins said he had no update on the condition of Matthias, who was held out of Sunday's game against the Senators after taking a shot to the head a night earlier. The Canucks' team doctors will likely evaluate Matthias as the day progresses to determine if he's suffering from any concussion-like symptoms before determining whether or not he'll be able to suit up Tuesday night.

Matthias (head) will not play Sunday against the Senators. Matthias took an elbow from Stephane Robidas on Saturday, causing him to leave the game in the second period. The Canucks have not released an update on the situation, but Matthias will not play Sunday and should be considered questionable for Tuesday's game.

Matthias scored a goal and chipped in an assist in Thursday's 3-0 win over Pittsburgh. Never known for his scoring prowess, Matthias has nonetheless been hot lately, scoring four goals in the last five games and adding two assists while going plus-6 in that span. His shot rate still isn't special -- he's averaging less than two per game -- but it's still better than it's ever been in his career, so he could at least ramp up into the 30-point range for the first time.

Matthias tallied a goal and an assist, firing off five shots in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Red Wings. That's now three straight games with a goal for Matthias, though he scored just two goals before this streak. He's got nine points on the season (five goals, four assists) and is on pace to top his old career-high of 24 points, but not much more.

Matthias scored his first of the season in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Avalanche. Matthias has recorded just north of 20 points in each of the last three seasons, and so far has three in his first 13 contests. Topping his career high of 24 seems like a possibility, but not too much more than that.

Shawn Matthias centered Daniel Sedin and Nicklas Jensen on the second line Saturday. What's amazing is that Matthias was the fourth line center on Florida, the second worst team in the NHL while on a playoff contender, he is now seeing second line minutes. Matthias has two goals and five points in 12 games since his trade from Florida. He has little fantasy value at this time.

Shawn Matthias scored his first goal since his trade to the Canucks. However, the Canucks' comeback effort against the Capitals fell short. Matthias had five shots on goal as well in 18:32 and continues to be an engaged Canuck, despite not getting the good fortune on the scoresheet.

Shawn Matthias will play an increased role in the Canucks' offense going forward now that Ryan Kesler has been ruled out for a couple weeks. Matthias, acquired earlier this month in the Roberto Luongo deal, started off playing more of a checking role on the third line. But due to Kesler's injury, the Canucks will count on Matthias to spur some offense playing a top-six role with Chris Higgins and Jannick Hansen. This is a good a chance as any for Matthias to emerge on the fantasy radar this season.

Vancouver coach John Tortorella was hard-pressed to find a silver lining in a sobering 6-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Thursday, but found one in Shawn Matthias. Acquired with Jacob Markstrom in the trade that sent goalie Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, there was something to be said for the seven shots and 16:43 that Matthias logged while playing centre and left wing and killing penalties. He also won nine of 14 draws. "I thought he played well," said Tortorella. "He was probably our best forward. He did some good things and wasn't afraid to make a play and made some good plays. I'm really happy with his play."
