Ryan Smyth was unable to score on the power play and will end his career tied for first with Glenn Anderson on the Oilers all-time list. Smyth had 126 power play goals with the Oilers which tied Anderson and was one ahead of Wayne Gretzky. Coach Dallas Eakins gave him every opportunity to break the record as Smyth saw a whopping 7:10 minutes of ice time with the man-advantage but it was not to be. It was quite a career for 'Captain Canada' who retires at the age of 38.

Ryan Smyth's farewell to the NHL was upstaged by the Edmonton Oilers' new guys Saturday night. First-year Oilers Roman Horak, Will Acton and Steve Pinizzotto combined for five points in a 5-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks, bringing Edmonton's eighth consecutive non-playoff season to an end on a winning note. Horak scored his first goal with the Oilers, Acton has his first two-point game in the NHL with a goal an assist, and Pinizzotto earned his first two NHL assists. Jeff Petry, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored for the Oilers. Taylor Hall had three assists to finish the season with 80 points. Smyth, named captain for the night, didn't get onto the scoresheet in his 1,270th and final regular-season game, but took seven shots, only one on net. The Alberta native received a standing ovation late in the game and received another one after the final horn as he skated around Rexall Place before standing by the glass with his family and waving. Smyth is retiring after 19 NHL seasons, 15 of them spent with the Oilers, who paid tribute to him throughout the night.

Ryan Smyth is just one marker shy of setting a new Edmonton Oilers' record for most power-play goals in an Oilers' uniform. With 126, Smyth is tied with Glenn Anderson for first place on the list. He's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and at the age of 38, he might not have another campaign with the Edmonton Oilers.

Ryan Smyth senses some character building for the Oilers lately. For the second time in three road games, the Oilers came back to earn at least a point, getting one against the Red Wings in a shootout loss Friday night. "We're building some character in this lockerroom, learning from our mistakes, putting them off to the side and continuing to play," said Smyth, who had the lone regulation goal for Edmonton. "You have to find a way to keep yourself in it and capitalize on a few chances here and there."

Ryan Smyth passed Wayne Gretzky on the Oilers' all-time power-play goals list. Smyth scored his 126th power-play goal with Edmonton on Thursday. Of course, Smyth has played much of his 1,252 game NHL career with the Oilers while Gretzky was limited to nine campaigns with the team during their NHL days. That doesn't take away from the fact that Smyth's 126 power-play goals is impressive though and Smyth still seems rather happy with it. "He's got so many records, it's nice to be past him for this one," Smyth said.

Ryan Smyth had a goal and an assist in Edmonton's 3-2 overtime win against New York Islanders Thursday night. Smyth got the Oilers on the board with a power-play goal at 8:28 of the third period. It was Smyth's 126th power-play goal, tying him for the franchise lead with Glenn Anderson. Smyth has been struggling this season and he has only nine goals with 13 assists in 54 games this season. He also has an awful minus-15 rating. Philip Larsen adn Taylor Hall also scored for the Oilers, while Sam Gagner registered two assists in the win.

Former NHL all-star Ryan Smith of the Edmonton Oilers turned 38 on Friday and is one of the oldest players in the league, but that isn't preventing him from thinking about his playing future. "I'm fighting for another contract," Smyth said. "It's just a matter of playing as hard as you can. My body's held up fairly decent. I feel I can be an asset in a lot of ways. The coach has put me in some key situations, power play and penalty kill and I'm trying to relish playing center. Yeah, I feel I still have game."
