Ellis (lower body) will be out until after the All-Star break, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports. The Predators plan to reevaluate Ellis' condition in about two weeks. Prior to leaving the second period of Thursday's game against the Stars with the injury, Ellis had been enjoying his hottest stretch of play of the season, tallying two goals and three assists over a three-game span. With the specter of a long-term injury now hanging over Ellis, the onus will be on youngster Seth Jones to pick up the slack on the Preds' second pairing.

Ellis dished out a pair of power-play assists in Sunday's loss to the Ducks. That's back-to-back multi-point outings for Ellis, who now has four goals and 17 points in 38 games, to go with an impressive plus-11 rating. Averaging 19:46 of ice time and seeing decent power-play minutes, the 24-year-old could reach the 35-point barrier in 2014-15. As a top-six defenseman on a Nashville team sitting second in the Western Conference, Ellis makes for a good play in some deeper formats.

Ellis scored his fourth goal of the season and chipped in an assist in Saturday's wild 7-6 win over the Kings. Ellis was one of four Predators to post a multi-point effort in this one. He now has 15 points, a plus-10 rating, 78 SOG and 27 PIM in 37 games this season and appears poised to challenge his career high of 27 points set last year. If Shea Weber and Roman Josi found themselves on one of your competitor's rosters this year, you could do worse than to kick the tires on Ellis if you're in need of D help, as he's a very serviceable rearguard on a surprisingly productive Nashville squad that ranks fourth in the Western Conference with 2.95 goals per game.

Ellis scored his first goal of the year, assisted on the Preds' other two tallies, went plus-2 and potted the winner in the shootout Tuesday against the Coyotes. That's how you put the team on your back. Ellis had gone four straight without a point after notching an assist in the opener, and this is a heck of a way to break the slump. The 23-year-old Ellis has massive offensive upside, but will have a hard time realizing it while skating on Nashville's third defensive pairing.
