Copley (groin) signed a two-year, two-way contract with Washington on Wednesday worth $1.3 million.
EDGE Analysis
By locking up Copley, the Caps give themselves an insurance plan if they are unable to retain restricted free agent Philipp Grubauer. The 25-year-old Copley spent the bulk of the 2016-17 campaign in the minors where he went 26-11-2 between both AHL Chicago and AHL Hershey.

Copley (groin) had "muscle puled off the bone" during Game 4 of Hershey's series against Providence, JJ Reagan of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The grueling description notwithstanding, the injury certainly clouds offseason considerations the Capitals have to make with respect to their goaltending depth given that Copley, reacquired by the Capitals at the trade deadline from the St. Louis Blues, has been viewed as an insurance policy on potentially losing Philipp Grubauer to Vegas in June's Expansion Draft. The 25-year-old netminder is expected to make a full recovery, but his fantasy value remains pretty murky with this injury added to his place on the depth chart.

Copley was traded to Washington on Monday as part of a package with Kevin Shattenkirk for several draft picks and depth forward Zach Sanford.
EDGE Analysis
Copley has played in a grand total of two games at the NHL level since last season. His performance in the AHL this year has been solid, however, as he's posted a 15-6-2 record to go with a .920 save percentage and 2.31 GAA. That said, he's not likely to ascend to the big club anytime soon, as Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer have the NHL crease firmly locked down in D.C..

Copley was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The original plan was for Copley to serve as the backup for two games after he was blasted for five goals on 29 shots from the Jets in his starting debut Saturday. However, he's now headed back to the minors before the All-Star break; Copley's been dominant at that level based on a 11-4-1 record, 2.32 GAA and .920 save mark.

Copley will dress for the Blues' next two outings as the backup, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Copley, who bombed in his NHL debut, should provide some much needed time off for fellow netminders Jake Allen and Carter Hutton. Considering most teams don't like to carry three goalies, it seems likely that Copley will be returned to AHL Chicago after the NHL All-Star break.

Copley made his first NHL start Saturda and made 24 saves in a 5-3 loss to Winnipeg.
EDGE Analysis
Despite his awkwardly-spelled first name and his improbable North Pole hometown, Copley is a guy to watch, if only because the Blues net goaltending has been so sketchy of late. Jake Allen has been porous and Carter Hutton has been overworked as a result. Copley has a long way to go to be an NHL starter, but he as been solid at the AHL level his season and battled hard against the Jets. Do not pick him up yet, but monitor the St. Louis net carefully. Someone there needs to step up and fast.

Copley will make his first career start Saturday afternoon, facing the Jets on the road, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Starter Jake Allen was shellacked in his past four outings -- he posted a .797 save percentage in that span -- and chief backup Carter Hutton has worked in the each of the last seven contests, so it's time to see what Copley can bring to the table as a spot-starter. Born in North Pole, Alaska, Copley has a projectable stature at 6-foot-4 and 196 pounds, but he'll need to be incredibly shifty in making the adjustment from AHL Chicago -- where he's gone 11-4-1 with a .920 save percentage this season -- to the much quicker NHL landscape.

Copley could be recalled by the Blues after both Jake Allen and Carter Hutton struggled in Thursday's 7-3 loss to the Capitals.
EDGE Analysis
Allen (four goals allowed on 10 shots) started Thursday and was pulled for a third straight game, but Hutton (three goals against, eight shots) wasn't much better in relief. Allen has allowed 10 goals on just 36 shots over his last three games while Hutton has allowed eight goals in his last 31 shots faced. The goalie situation is not pretty for the Blues, as they decide on a starter for Saturday's road game in Winnipeg. It all leaves us to speculate on Copley, who is 11-4-1 with a 2.32 goals-against average and .920 save percentage over 18 games with AHL Chicago.

Copley signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Blues on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Copley appeared in 37 games with AHL Chicago last season, posting a 15-16-3 record with an unimpressive 2.79 GAA and .909 save percentage over that span. The 24-year-old Alaska native will once again share goaltending duties with Jordan Binnington in the minors this season.

EDGE Analysis
Copley, who made his NHL debut earlier in the day, was destined for a return to the AHL after the Blues acquired Anders Nilsson from Edmonton on Friday. Nilsson, who has 57 games of NHL experience, was called up from the AHL on Saturday and will serve as the primary backup to Jake Allen until Brian Elliott (lower body) is ready to return.
