Budaj will be making his third start since joining the Lightning at the trade deadline and fifth overall appearance. After a shaky debut in Tampa, the netminder was able to shut down the Rangers on March 13, allowing just two goals in the win. The 34-year-old will face the difficult task of trying to contain the Brad Marchand led Bruins who despite being able to score -- 19 goals in their last five -- are bogged down in a three-game losing streak.

Budaj entered Thursday's game six minutes into the second period and allowed one goal on six shots in relief.

EDGE Analysis

Starter Andrei Vasilevskiy took the loss -- the game ended 5-0 for Toronto. Budaj isn't likely to turn this performance into extra time in the blue paint. Vasilevskiy had been 6-0-1 over his last seven starts prior to Thursday.

Budaj made 26 saves in a 3-2 win over the Rangers on Monday night.

It was his first win in a Tampa uniform. Budaj has been getting plenty of rest in the Sunshine State -- he's gone from being a workhorse in Los Angeles to a rarely-used back-up behind Andrej Vasilevksiy. Spot start value is the only gift he can give you.

Projected to split time (and likely be on the shorter end of the timeshare) with Andrei Vasilevskiy, Budaj's fantasy value is dwindling. He wasn't going to see many starts backing up a healthy Jonathan Quick in Los Angeles, but Tampa Bay also sold a number of key assets at the trade deadline and likely aren't as defensively sound as the Kings. Budaj is nothing more than a depth goaltender in seasonal leagues at this point, and it isn't out of the question to consider replacing him in shallower settings.

Budaj is slated to make his debut in net for the Lightning on Friday against the Penguins.

Budaj, who owns a career 3-1-2 mark with a 2.70 GAA against the Penguins, will look to lead the Lightning to their third straight win Friday. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh (currently No. 1 in the NHL with 214 goals for) has dropped back-to-back contests, to Dallas on Tuesday and Chicago on Wednesday.

Budaj was traded to the Lightning on Sunday, along with a 2017 seventh-round pick, 2017 conditional pick and prospect Erik Cernak in exchange for fellow netminder Ben Bishop.

EDGE Analysis

A distant backup for most of his career, Budaj has made the most of an injury to Jonathan Quick (groin) this year, putting up a 16-12-3 record, 2.55 GAA and .911 save percentage with Los Angeles. He'll now head to a Bolts organization that favors Andrei Vasilevskiy as the netminder of the future, which means Budaj is likely to again assume a backup role. However, Budaj has stood in so admirably for Quick in Hockeywood this season that he could push Vasilevskiy for crease time as Tampa pushes for a playoff berth down the stretch.

Budaj surrendered two goals on 23 shots in a 4-1 loss to the visiting Bruins on Thursday. Boston scored two empty-netters.

EDGE Analysis

The Czech netminder has failed to crack the win column in four of his last five outings, with his only victory in that span coming against the league's worst team in Colorado. With Jonathan Quick (groin) nearing a return -- possibly in the next couple weeks -- owners will want to squeeze as much as they can out of Budaj while they can, so hopefully he can get back in the win column again soon.

After being rather porous over an ugly five-gave stretch that featured a whopping 19 goals, Budaj has bounced back with a pair of one-goal games and appears to be getting back on track, so owners should roll with him as they normally would.
