Peter Budaj may get the nod for Montreal in Monday's road match-up against the New York Rangers. Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette believes that could happen with Carey Price getting the call when the Canadiens host Dallas on Tuesday in the second game of the back-to-back situation. Peter Budaj blocked 27 of 28 shots as the Canadiens beat the Oilers 4-1 Thursday night at Rexall Place. It was Budaj's first start of the season for the Canadiens and he played a very solid game. The veteran backup goaltender posted an 8-1-1 record last season for the Canadiens and with this kind of performance he could see some more starts.

Budaj was forced into action due to the injury suffered by Carey Price and he was the victim of a woeful performance by the team around him. He'll enter next season as the primary backup to Price once again.

The Canadiens trail Ottawa 3-1 in their quarterfinal series and number one goalie Carey Price has been ruled out for the remainder of the series because of a lower-body injury. Budaj made his 2013 playoff debut in overtime Tuesday night and he allowed the winning goal to Kyle Turris.

Budaj likely won't be needed the rest of the way, but this was certainly a good confidence boost, regardless. The backup finishes with a 2.29 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.

Updating an earlier item Peter Budaj will get the start against Toronto Saturday night. Well that is a big surprise. The Canadiens must be concerned about Price's confidence given he let in four goals in five shots agsainst Toronto April 13th. The Habs better win and hope the Bruins lose at least one of their games in regulation time because otherwise they will play Toronto in the first round of the playoffs and Price will have to face his demons without any buffer game to build his ego.

Peter Budaj will be in Montreal's cage when the Canadiens play in Pittsburgh Wednesday night. Carey Price has been pulled in his last two starts, so he'll get the night off to try to collect himself. Budaj has stopped 25 of 28 shots during his recent relief appearances.

Peter Budaj stopped 14 of 15 shots in a 5-1 win Thursday night. Budaj has now won seven straight games. Despite his strong play this season, he's never been a threat to take the starting job from Carey Price. In fact, it wouldn't be surprising to see Budaj get no more than one additional start before the season ends.

Peter Budaj and the Montreal Canadiens have agreed to a two-year, $2.8 million contract extension. He was earning a pro-rated $1.2 million this year and will get a slight raise next season to $1.4 million. Budaj has posted a 6-1-1 record with a .917 save percentage and a 2.28 GAA this season. Coach Michel Therrien also announced that Budaj will start Thursday's game at Buffalo.
