Peter Budaj is expected to start again for Montreal on Thursday night at Pittsburgh. He stopped 28 of 30 shots in a 2-1 overtime loss to Detroit on Wednesday and will start back-to-back games with Carey Price sidelined by a lower-body injury.

Peter Budaj was sharp on Wednesday night, but suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to the Red Wings. Playing in place of the injured Carey Price, Budaj blocked 28 of 30 shots, but didn't receive the offensive support needed to earn him a win. His record is now 6-4-2 on the season while his GAA is 1.97 and his save percentage is .927.

Peter Budaj will get the nod on Wednesday against Detroit. That's not surprising given that Carey Price could use the rest after winning a gold medal with Canada in the 2014 Winter Games. Budaj has a 1.97 GAA and .926 save percentage in 14 games in 2013-14.

Don't be surprised if Peter Budaj gets the start Sunday afternoon against the Jets. The Habs play Saturday night against Tampa and then less than 18 hours later will face off against Winnipeg. There is a good chance Montreal coach Michel Therrien will split the starting assignments between Carey Price, who will be in goal Saturday, and Budaj.

Peter Budaj has a perfect 4-0 career record at TD Garden in Boston. "These are games you want to play," he said after Thursday's 4-1 win over the Bruins. "Maybe it's just the atmosphere. It's easy to get up for these games. The coach told me a few days ago that I was going to play. After Carey (Price) had that great game against Carolina (winning 3-0) we wanted to play well tonight. The guys were ready." Montreal's backup goaltender has played well when he's been given the opportunity to start this season, but he doesn't get to play often behind Price.

Peter Budaj was excellent for the Canadiens in Thursday's 4-1 win over Boston. Starting his first game since January 8th, Budaj didn't appear the least bit rusty as he turned aside 34 of 35 shots for the victory. His record improves to 6-4-1 with the win while his GAA is 1.97 and his save percentage is .926.

Peter Budaj will get the nod for Montreal on Thursday against Boston. It was expected that Carey Price would play against the Canadiens' bitter rivals following his 36-save shutout against Carolina on Tuesday, but that won't be the case as he gets the night off. Budaj hasn't started a game since Jan. 8, but he made two relief appearances last week.

Peter Budaj was on the wrong end of a 3-1 decision against the Flyers Wednesday night. Budaj allowed three goals on 27 shots in the defeat, which was his first starting assignment since December 29th. His record falls to 5-4-1 with the loss while his GAA is now 2.14 and his save percentage is a respectable .920.

Peter Budaj will serve as Montreal's starter on Wednesday. Budaj has been a great backup, but his playing time is limited behind Carey Price. We don't expect that to change and we consequently can't recommend owning Budaj in standard leagues, unless you already have Price and want an insurance policy.

Peter Budaj's last two starts have come against the Florida Panthers. He's dropped both of those games. He allowed three goals on 24 shots to lose 4-1 to Florida on Sunday, dropping his overall 2013-14 record to 5-3-1. He doesn't get many chances for reps with Carey Price as a workhorse in Montreal's net and struggling against lowly ranked (albeit improving) squads like the Panthers probably won't help.
