Patrick Sharp, rebounding from a mediocre Western Conference Final, scored two goals and played well Sunday night but he and the Blackhawks were defeated 5-4 in overtime by the Los Angeles Kings and were dethroned as NHL champions.
So it'll be the Kings who will represent the West in the Stanley Cup Final against the East champs, the New York Rangers. The series will kick off in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. The Hawks were visibly upset after allowing the Kings' overtime goal in the first overtime period Sunday. The goal, credited to L.A. defenseman Nick Martinez, went off the body of Chicago defenseman Nick Leddy, who was clearly disconsolate as he remained on the ice after the game. Sharp's goals were his fourth and fifth of the post-season. The Hawks blew leads of 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3 in this one before Martinez's overtime goal. Brandon Saad had a goal and an assist, and Patrick Kane had two more assists for the Hawks. Chicago's loss means Detroit remains the last NHL team to win consecutive titles in 1997 and 1998.

Patrick Sharp was limited to just one shot on goal in Chicago's 5-2 loss to Los Angeles Monday night.
Sharp found the back of the net on Saturday, but he now has just three goals and seven points in 16 playoff games. The Blackhawks have managed to get this far without him playing a leadership role offensively, but now they are down 3-1 in the Western Conference Final. Sharp isn't the only one that has been underperforming for Chicago, but they certainly could use more from the 34-goal scorer right now.

Patrick Sharp scored a goal in Chicago's 4-3 loss on Saturday.
It was just Sharp's third goal in 15 playoff games. The Blackhawks are used to getting more out of him than they have so far in the postseason, but now would be an ideal time for him to heat up from Chicago's perspective.

Patrick Sharp expressed his frustration with the way Chicago played in the third period of Wednesday's 6-2 loss to Los Angeles.
"It's pretty frustrating," Sharp said. "We got off to a good start through 40 minutes. We were skating well and drew a few penalties and then obviously things unraveled during the third. We're not happy and we're looking forward to getting on the plane and making up for it in Game 3." The Kings rallied from a 2-0 deficit by scoring five goals in the third period to even their series against the Blackhawks at one game apiece. Sharp finished the game with a minus-2 rating and three shots. He will be looking for his first point in the Western Conference Final on Saturday at Los Angeles.

Patrick Sharp scored a goal in Chicago's 4-2 loss to Minnesota in Game 4 of their second round playoff series on Friday night.
The goal by Sharp that tied the game at 1-1 was a partial gift, Ilya Bryzgalov allowed a stoppable shot to squeeze through his leg pads. Sharp now has two goals and two assists in 10 games in the playoffs and the Blackhawks expect more from him. Michal Handzus scored the other goal for the Blackhawks, while Marian Hossa registered two assists in the loss.

Patrick Sharp has one goal and two assists in nine games during the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
He registered 34 goals and 78 points in 82 games during the regular season to lead the Blackhawks in scoring. "Sure, I know I can be better in that category," he said. "Whether it's making plays, whether it's being more direct with my play, getting more scoring opportunities, helping out my linemates. I know that's something I can do." He has amassed 31 shots already and he plans to keep shooting until he snaps out of his funk.

Patrick Sharp got his first goal of the playoffs on Sunday.
He was hooked and high-sticked on a breakaway, but still managed to slide the puck by St. Louis goaltender Ryan Miller. Sharp entered the contest with no points and 21 shots in the first round. His outstanding effort for his first goal should give him some confidence heading into the semifinals.

Despite playing well, Patrick Sharp has yet to score in this season's playoffs.
He led the Blackhawks in scoring with 34 goals in the regular season but has not bulged the twine in the post-season despite taking 33 shot attempts with 21 of them getting through. For his part, Sharp does not seem concerned about his bad luck around the net. "I'll take all the [scoring] chances I can get - it means I'm creating something and doing something good out there," Sharp said. "Sooner or later, they're going to start going in." We agree with Sharp. He is due for an explosion any game now.
