Injury: Lieuwen is out with a concussion. dailyfaceoff.com Mon 4/7/14 2:56 PM

Lieuwen's concussion means the Sabres will need to find another goaltender to back-up Matt Hackett on Tuesday. Lieuwen joins Jhonas Enroth and Michal Neuvirth as injured Sabres' goaltenders.

Goalie Start: Lieuwen will start for the Sabres. dailyfaceoff.com Sun 4/6/14 2:56 PM

Lieuwen stopped 26 of 28 shot in a 2-1 loss to the Blues on Thursday. After Matt Hackett started on Friday, the Sabres will get the 6-foot-5 Lieuwen back between the pipes tonight. He is 1-3-0 with 2.57 GAA and .916 SV% to start his NHL career. Those are solid numbers, but the squad in front of him seriously damages his fantasy value.

Lieuwen stopped 33 of 35 shots in a 3-2 shootout win over the Devils on Tuesday. The win was Lieuwen's first as he moved to 1-2-0 with a 2.69 GAA and .913 SV% in five appearances. Despite the nice outing vs. the Devils, the facts are that he is a Sabres netminder taking on a great St. Louis team tonight.

Lieuwen will make his third NHL start tonight vs. the Devils. He has gone 0-2-0 with a 3.42 GAA and .889 SV% in his first two starts, plus one relief appearance. He had a strong AHL campaign going, but playing on the worst team in the NHL makes it difficult to post strong numbers. Look elsewhere for a most stable spot-start.

Cory Schneider gets the start tonight against Nathan Lieuwen and the Buffalo Sabres. Brodeur was pulled after letting in 3 goals so he may not see much action going forward as long as the Devils are still in the playoff hunt.  A win tonight and some other good fortune could spring them right back in the thick of things...... Sergei Bobrovsky looks to return to the net tonight against Semyon Varlamov and the Colorado Avalanche. The Columbus Blue Jackets are in a dogfight with a few teams for a playoff spot and need Bobber to carry the load in net.  He faces a hot goaltender and team in Avs' G Varlamov but the home ice (20-14-3) should give them a little bit of an advantage, although Colorado is a solid road team (22-10-3).... Kari Lehtonen marches the Dallas Stars into Washington in what is a critical game for both teams. The Capitals will go with Jaroslav Halak (LIKELY) in hopes of staying close to the pack fighting for that last playoff spot in the East. Both teams are a point behind the 8th playoff spot, with both of the teams they are chasing playing tonight on their home ice. Anton Khudobin (LIKELY) gets the start against the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight clearly showing that he will get the majority of the starts going out as he got the harder of the back-to-back matchups. Scott Clemmensen (LIKELY) will be in net the Cats but this team, for the most part, has packed it in. Just some auditions for next year's teams... Karri Ramo and the Calgary flames head into Toronto to take on the struggling Maple Leafs. Jonathan Bernier will be in net once again as the Leafs try to right the ship in time to make the playoffs. It's hard to believe that the Leafs are just 1-9-0 in their last ten, not even earning a point in any of their 9 losses.  But someday that streak will have to end, but not if they ...

Lieuwen allowed two goals on 24 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Flames in his first career start. Sunday, he will face the Canucks, while Matt Hackett is expected to go on Tuesday. With the fantasy hockey playoffs in full swing, it is difficult to warrant starting a rookie goaltender, especially a Sabres' one.

It's the first time the 22-year-old has been summoned to the NHL. The emergency basis means either Jhonas Enroth or Michal Neuvirth is sick or injured. Lieuwen has excelled with the Amerks this season. The organization originally expected him to merely compete with Connor Knapp for the backup job, but he's wrestled the starting role away from Matt Hackett. Lieuwen, drafted in the sixth round in 2011, has appeared in 32 games with a 17-11-2 record, 2.34 GAA and .922 SV%.
