Schmidt had an assist in Wednesday's 4-3 OT win against the Bruins.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old blueliner had a nice give-and-go with Nicklas Backstrom for the game-winning tally while logging a season-high 20:44 in ice time after Matt Niskanen (upper body) exited early in the contest. Schmidt is on track to best last season's two goal, 16-point season but doesn't possess much fantasy upside outside of deeper leagues.

Schmidt will be held out of the lineup Friday against the Blackhawks, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washingtonreports.
EDGE Analysis
Head coach Barry Trotz has decided to sit Schmidt to give defenseman Taylor Chorney some playing time and not due to any injury or dissatisfaction. With four assists in 12 games, the Minnesotan is on pace to best the 16 points he recorded in 2015-16, but his lack of power-play time limits his value to the deepest of leagues.

Schmidt contributed two assists in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Panthers.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old defenseman is acquiting himself nicely on Washington's third defensive pairing with Brooks Orpik with four assists in his first 11 games while logging 14:27 in ice time. However, his lack of opportunity on the power-play limits his fantasy value to deeper leagues at this time, even if he is on track to best a career high 16-points attained in 2015-16.

Schmidt recorded an assist in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Canucks.
EDGE Analysis
He now has two assists in his first seven games which puts him on pace to exceed last season's 16-point campaign. The Minnesotan is jumping into the rush more and showing more offensive flair than he did last season, but his lack of overall ice time and power-play opportunities confine his fantasy relevance to only the deepest of leagues.

Schmidt (lower body) will play in Saturday's preseason game against the Islanders, Mike Vogel of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Schmidt had been dealing with a lower-body injury and was considered day-to-day for most of the week heading into Saturday. His return is obviously good news for Washington, as it seems he'll be available in full moving forward.

Schmidt (lower-body) was injured during Sunday's practice, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington reports.
EDGE Analysis
Schmidt got tangled up with fellow defenseman Garrett Mitchell during a drill session and limped off the ice. Acting head coach Todd Reierden, who is filling in for Barry Trotz during the World Cup, indicated the injury is not a major concern.

Schmidt had an assist in Monday's 6-1 rout over the Flyers.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old defenseman had gone eight games without registering a point. With Brooks Orpik (upper body) out indefinitely, the Capitals will be leaning more on Schmidt in the short-term, so hopefully the added ice time and confidence boost will jumpstart Schmidt's production, but with only 16 points in 72 games during the regular season, it would be wise to temper expectations.

Schmidt will be a healthy scratch Wednesday against the Kings, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Schmidt has looked a little off in the last two games after missing some time with an upper-body injury, so the night off should give the 24-year-old an extra chance to catch his breath as the season wears on. Taylor Chorney will take his place alongside Mike Weber.

Schmidt (upper body) took part in line rushes during pregame warmups, indicating he'll return to action Saturday against the Bruins, Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Capitals will be happy to have Schmidt back in the lineup Saturday, as he's been a rock solid defender for Washington this season, posting a plus-14 rating with 15 points (two goals, 13 assists) in 57 games. The 24-year-old blueliner is expected to skate alongside Taylor Chorney on the Capitals' third pairing in Saturday's contest.

Schmidt (upper body) is again out of the lineup Friday against the Rangers, Alan May of CSN Washington reports.
EDGE Analysis
There's been no developments on the injury front for Schmidt other than the fact that he's out again Friday, so it's probably best to still consider him day-to-day. The blueliner has provided a bit of value in daily formats just prior to the injury, notching two assists (five shots on goal, and seven blocked shots in the four games prior to missing Wednesday's contest. Mike Weber will once again draw into the lineup in his place, while Schmidt's next chance to play comes Saturday against the Bruins.
