Mike Smith (upper body) participated in Monday's practice. "I think it went well," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. All the same, Smith is not expected to return to the Coyotes on Tuesday. He should be considered day-to-day beyond that.

Mike Smith (upper body) will not join the Coyotes in San Jose for Saturday's game. Smith suffered the injury March 22. Though he remains day-to-day, the fact he hasn't even been on the ice since getting hurt isn't a great sign. "He's feeling much better, and he continues to show progress in his recovery," general manager Don Maloney said. Jason LaBarbera will be the man between the pipes instead. He's given up 11 goals and is 1-1-1 since taking over for Smith.

Mike Smith (upper body) is expected to miss at least Phoenix's next two games. Under that timeline the earliest he would be available to play would be Saturday's contest at San Jose. Jason LaBarbera will get the nod for the Coyotes on Wednesday and he'll act as the team's starter until Smith can return.

Phoenix Coyotes place Mike Smith (upper body) on injured reserve. The team never sent out an announcement but Smith is listed as being on IR on the Coyotes' official roster. Smith has been sidelined since being run over by Vancouver's Alexander Edler on Thursday. Smith is currently being listed as day-to-day and there's currently no timetable for his return.

Mike Smith has an upper body injury. Smith is still day-to-day and although it does not seem like a long-term injury, he could miss a couple of more games. Smith was hit behind the net by Alexander Edler and it cost Edler a two game suspension.

Phoenix Coyotes workhorse Mike Smith remains day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. Dave Tippett reportedly indicated that it still doesn't seem like his issue will be a long-term worry, although what "long-term" really means is anyone's guess. The Coyotes need him badly either way.

The Phoenix Coyotes aren't expected to update Mike Smith's (undisclosed) status until Sunday at the earliest. Smith couldn't complete Thursday's game after being charged into by Vancouver's Alexander Edler. He also missed Friday's practice. It's worth noting that Phoenix has already summoned goaltender Chad Johnson.

Goalie Mike Smith didn't participate in the Phoenix Coyotes' practice Friday. He saw a doctor Friday morning and then came to Jobing.com Arena for treatment after taking a charge from Canucks defenseman Alex Edler late in the second period of a game Thursday night. Smith finished out the period but did not return for the third. Earlier, Daniel Sedin collided with Smith during a rush to the net. Smith is considered day to day. Edler, meanwhile, drew a two-game suspension after a disciplinary hearing with the player-safety department Friday. "They're talking more like a whiplash or something like that," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. "It's one of those things you don't know until you give it a couple days, and we'll see where it is."

Mike Smith was replaced in net for the start of the third period of Thursday's game due to an undisclosed injury. Alexander Edler ran Smith behind the net very late in the second period, so Smith is most likely feeling the aftereffects of the charge that prompted a five-minute major. Smith had been pretty stingy against the Canucks, giving up one goal on 17 shots. Jason LaBarbera relieved Smith for the final frame.
