Look for Mike Smith to get the call against the Ducks Sunday.
Not much question about this decision. Smith has been solid in the Coyotes' net this season despite mediocre play by his teammates.

Mike Smith stopped 20 of 22 shots but it wasn't enough as the Coyotes dropped a 2-0 decision to the Los Angeles Kings Thursday.
Smith gave up both goals in the middle period as his record dropped to 1-2-1 with a 2.50 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Smith is currently the Coyotes top netminder but could be pushed by Jason LaBarbera if he falters at all. He is a lower level second goalie in deep pools at this time.

Mike Smith is likely to be between the pipes on Saturday when the Coyotes are home to the Jets.
Smith was the first goalie off the ice on Friday. The Coyotes face Winnipeg for the first time ever as Phoenix was the place where the original Jets moved to in 1996. Smith is currently 0-1-1 with a 3.41 GAA and a .909 save percentage. He will have to play well as Jason LaBarbera is breathing down his neck to become the starter for the Coyotes, especially after a 5-2 win this week.

Mike Smith stopped 24 of 25 Dallas shots but lost 2-1 in a shootout Sunday.
He was sharp in regulation time but was beaten in the shootout by both Loui Eriksson and Mike Ribeiro. Smith also was strong stopping 46 shots in a 6-3 loss Saturday. It doesn't look as if he is going to get much support from his Coyote teammates this season so use him at your peril.

Mike Smith was bombarded with 52 shots in Phoenix's 6-3 loss to San Jose Saturday night.
It's hard to fault a goalie who makes 46 saves in a game, so Smith should avoid the blame for this stinker. That said, the Coyotes are not a very good team and Smith will likely be exposed to this sort of thing on a regular basis. Keep that in mind if you are thinking of starting him as one of your primary goaltenders this fantasy season.

Mike Smith will play between the pipes in Phoenix's season opener on Saturday.
Smith signed a two-year/$4 million contract with the Coyotes over the summer. He'll start the season as the team's number one goaltender, but he figures to compete with Jason LaBarbera for playing time all season.

Mike Smith made 28 saves in a 3-1 win over the Sharks.
Smith was good, but the Sharks didn't ice the majority of their scoring stars, so take the win with a grain of salt. Smith struggled as the number one in Tampa, eventually being cast aside for veteran Dwayne Roloson. He enters the season as Phoenix's starting netminder, but has struggled with injuries and consistency issues over his career, so best look else where to improve you goaltending.

Goaltender Mike Smith is very excited at the opportunity he'll have to be the number one netminder in Phoenix.
Smith was expected to be the number one netminder in Tampa last season until the team first acquired Dan Ellis in the offseason and later picked up veteran Dwayne Roloson during the year, thereby pushing Smith to the minor leagues. "Mad is a nice way to put it," said Smith when describing how he felt about last year's chain of events. "Obviously, feeling like you can be an NHL goaltender and getting sent to the minors and having to play some games down there, it was a frustrating time." Smith has a great opportunity to become a starting goaltender once again as he'll battle with Jason LaBarbera for the role in training camp.

The Phoenix Coyotes picked up their starting goaltender as they signed Mike Smith to a two-year/$4 million contract.
The Coyotes lost Ilya Bryzgalov as he would not sign with the Coyotes so Phoenix went out and picked up Mike Smith who had been the starter in Tampa Bay before they acquired Dwayne Roloson last season. He will get the chance to start again, unless the Coyotes are able to get Tomas Vokoun, which we doubt.

Now that the Lightning have re-signed starting goalie Dwayne Roloson, they have turned their attention to his backup Mike Smith.
"We are discussing with Mike's agent right now and we'd like to bring Mike back," GM Steve Yzerman said. "We've had some discussions in general letting them know we would like to have Mike back but we wanted to see where we were at with Roli before I could do something. And now knowing where we are with Roli, we'll do our best in the next couple of days to see if we can't get Mike back as well." We'll keep you posted.
