Hackett has cleared waivers, reports TSN's Darren Dreger. Hackett will join AHL Rochester to get him some game action but the Amerks' crease is crowded with Nathan Lieuwen and Andrey Makarov already tending the pipes. Hackett is an impending RFA and lost the starting job to Lieuwen last year before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. The 24-year-old's future with the team is still TBD and a lot will depend on his performance. Jhonas Enroth and Michal Neuvirth are safe from the other competition for now.

The Sabres placed Hackett (knee) on waivers Monday, The Buffalo News reports. Hackett tore his ACL last April but it sounds like he's about ready to see game action and the team would like to use him in the minors, hence the need to have him pass through waivers.

Hackett (knee) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports. With Hackett not expected to be fully recovered from his torn ACL until around Christmastime, it was an easy decision for the Sabres to place him on IR. Once healthy, Hackett figures to be bound for AHL Rochester.

Hackett suffered an ACL injury on April 12 and could start skating soon, reports The Buffalo News. There is still no return date for Hackett though he is expected to return midway through the season, perhaps in late December or early January. Hackett is coming off a tough season, losing the starting job in the AHL to Nathan Lieuwen. He is in a contract year and faces an uphill climb on a team deep with goaltending prospects. The 24-year-old goalie may not figure into the team's long-term plans. Jhonas Enroth and Michal Neuvirth are battling for the NHL job while Andrey Makarov and Lieuwen will handle the duties in the AHL.

Matthew Hackett has accepted his qualifying offer. His contract in 2014-15 will pay him $750,750 at the NHL level on a one-year, two-way deal, according to Capgeek.com. Hackett's season ended in April when he suffered a knee injury, which required surgery to repair. He'll play in the AHL next year.

Buffalo GM Tim Murray believes that Matthew Hackett will require surgery on his injured right knee. Hackett was hurt last Saturday against Boston when defenseman Torey Krug fell on his leg. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher. We'll keep you posted on his status during the Sabres' off-season.

Matthew Hackett's leg injury is feared to be serious. Hackett was taken off the ice on a stretcher in the third period of Saturday's game. "We're going to wrap him up as best as we can, get him back home, get our doctors to look at him, but it doesn't look too good," said Sabres coach Ted Nolan. Buffalo has one game left in its schedule, which Hackett obviously won't participate in. Given that, Hackett will recover over the Sabres' offseason.

Matthew Hackett was the latest Buffalo netminder to get injured on Saturday. He had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher after Torey Krug fell on his leg in the third period of a 5-1 loss to Boston. Krug collided with Hackett when he was sent flying by Sabres defenseman Jamie McBain. Hackett will be evaluated once the team returns to Buffalo. Buffalo's crease already has injuries to Jhonas Enroth, Michal Neuvirth and Nathan Lieuwen. Connor Knapp entered the game in relief to see the first NHL action of his career.

Matthew Hackett will start in goal against the Bruins Saturday afternoon. He really is the only choice as all three of the Sabres' other goals, Jhonas Enroth, Michal Neuvirth and Nathan Lieuwen are injured at the moment. That's not much of endorsement.
