"You get bucked off the horse, the first thing you want to do is get back on," said Nolan. Hackett allowed four goals in 34 minutes Saturday against Washington before giving way to Anders Lindback. Hackett must make six more appearances with the Sabres this season in order for the team to retain his rights, and general manager Tim Murray dislikes letting assets walk. If Hackett plays well, the Sabres will keep him around to bolster their depth in goal. He's in line to see more action down the stretch, though Lindback is sporting a .915 save percentage with the Sabres and Nolan indicated he would ride the hot hand for as long as needed. Neither Lindback nor Hackett are good fantasy options, however, as both goalies are struggling to stick in the NHL.

It's almost impossible for a Sabres goalie to be successful -- the team is awful. Don't bet the farm on this guy. He might be able to carve out a solid NHL future, but not this season or next.

Vancouver peppered Hackett with shots all night, slipping at least one puck by him in each period. It wasn't a terrible performance, but probably also wasn't the way the 24-year-old wanted to start his season. With not much left to lose (other than a shot at Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel in next year's draft), the last-place Sabres will likely give Hackett plenty of looks for the remainder of the season, especially if they decide to trade Michal Neuvirth or Jhonas Enroth.

After suffering a season-ending ACL injury last year, Hackett will finally make his return to NHL action Friday against Vancouver. It's hard to predict how Hackett will perform. He'll likely be rusty, however, as he hasn't started an NHL game since Apr. 12 of 2014. Hackett went 1-6-1 with a 3.10 GAA and a .892 save percentage through eight games with the Sabres in the 2013-2014 season.

The Sabres have recalled Hackett from AHL Rochester, the team's official site reports. Hackett will combo with Jhonas Enroth for the Sabres in the coming days, with fellow goaltender Michal Neuvirth currently sidelined by a lower-body injury.
