Grzelcyk skated on the team's third-defensive pairing during Wednesday's practice.
EDGE Analysis
Having been projected to contend for an Opening Night roster spot following an injury to Torey Krug (broken jaw), Grzelcyk has grabbed his opportunity by the horns. Playing on the left side of the third pairing with Adam McQuaid on the right is where Krug has played for the better part of the last four seasons, and Grzelyck seems to be a natural fit to stand in Krug's place. That said, expect head coach Bruce Cassidy to take a few more looks at Grzelcyk in the preseason before officially deciding his fate for the beginning of the campaign.

Grzelcyk is a leading contender to make the team's opening night roster with Torey Krug (broken jaw) set to miss at least three weeks, Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
While there are other contenders to fill the void left by Krug, such as veteran Paul Postma, second-year pro Rob O'Gara, and rookies Jeremy Lauzon and Jakub Zboril, Grzelcyk seems to be the best option. Like Krug, Grzelcyk is diminutive, fast, possesses good offensive instincts, and shoots left-handed. Though Grzelcyk would not be able to fully replace a 51-point scorer in Krug, the former Boston University Terrier is the option who can best replicate what Krug brings to the table.

Grzelcyk was reassigned to AHL Providence on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Crzelcyk will head back down to the AHL after being called up Monday with teammate Tommy Cross in order to provide relief for a battered Bruins' defensive core. He did not see any ice time, but with Boston's uncertainty at defense, it isn't out of the question for the 23-year-old to get called up again if there are any more injuries.

Grzelcyk was recalled from AHL Providence on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The blueliner has only played in two NHL games in his career, but in 70 AHL games, he's tallied 32 points proving himself a capable two-way defenseman. With all the banged up Bruins defenders, Grzelcyk could get decent playing time in Monday's game if there's a worst-case scenario for all those players.

The Bruins assigned Grzelcyk to AHL Providence on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Grzelcyk's demotion suggests Kevan Miller (illness) will likely be available for Sunday's matchup with the Kings. The 22-year-old blueliner registered four shots on goal while averaging 12:29 of ice time in two games during his stay with the big club, and will likely spend the majority of the rest of the 2016-17 campaign in the minors.

The Bruins have recalled Grzelcyk, CSN New England reports.
EDGE Analysis
Per the report, Grzelcyk worked on a pairing with Colin Miller during Wednesday morning's skate, with fellow blueliners Torey Krug and Adam McQuaid not spotted on the ice. Grzelcyk is thus a candidate to make his NHL debut as soon as the team's evening tilt against the Penguins. In 25 games for AHL Providence this season, the 22-year-old Grzelcyk has notched a goal and 12 points, while recording a plus-12 rating. At 5-foot-9, 174 pounds, Grzelcyk still needs to prove that he can withstand the physical rigors of the NHL, but his mobility and puck-moving skills are assets that could eventually land him full-time duty with the big club.

Grzelcyk has been assigned by the Bruins to AHL Providence.
EDGE Analysis
Grzelcyk will thus gain some pro experience at the AHL level, but down the road, the 5-foot-9, 174 pounder profiles as a puck-mover in the mold of current Bruin Torey Krug.

Grzelcyk recorded an assist on the Bruins' lone goal in Wednesday's 5-1 preseason loss to Detroit.
EDGE Analysis
Per the Boston Herald, "Grzelcyk's puck-moving abilities emerged" as the game (his first of the preseason) progressed. With the Bruins, to date, not having made any splashy moves to upgrade their blue line, there could be an opportunity for Grzelcyk -- a smallish (5-foot-9, 174 pounds) puck-mover in the mold of current Bruin Torey Krug -- to make a run for a roster spot with the big club to open the coming season.

Grzelcyk plans to return to Boston University for another season, the Boston Herald reports.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder captained BU this past season, helping the team to a slot in the NCAA title game, which was won by Providence College. Grzelcyk, who recorded 10 goals and 38 points in 41 games as a junior this past season, remains on the Bruins' prospect radar, however, with his smallish stature and puck-moving skills drawing comparisons to current Boston blueliner Torey Krug.
