Matt Carle won't be signing anywhere until Ryan Suter makes his decision. Makes sense. When teams fall out of the Suter sweepstakes, they'll look to their Plan B options and that immediately throws Carle into the equation. The Flyers are still interested in bringing him back, but Carle is sure to draw some very nice offers by waiting until the premiere guy on the market is gone. The 28-year-old had 34 assists, 38 points and 164 blocked shots last season. For what it's worth, TSN's Bob McKenzie also said the 36-year-old Bryce Salvador will wait as well, though he's more one-dimensional and has little offensive upside.

It is the Flyers' first priority on Sunday to re-sign Matt Carle to a contract. Carle is headed for unrestricted free agency at noon and Philly wants to ink him to a deal before then. The Flyers are running out of time but remain hopeful. If they can't re-sign Carle, there will be plenty of suitors for the mobile defenseman including the Maple Leafs, Islanders and Hurricanes.

Pending UFA blueliner Matt Carle will head to market Sunday while very much keeping his current team, the Philadelphia Flyers, in the mix, ESPN reports. Brian Rosenbaum, senior editor of Rotoworld hockey, suggested in an interview on The York Report show on nextsportstar.com that Carle is a possible candidate to join the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flyers remain very much interested in retaining Carle's services, so all is not lost for them. But it appears fairly certain that Carle, a terrific puck mover and offensive blueliner, will at least take a peek out there come Sunday.

Even though they recently acquired a defenseman in Luke Schenn, the Flyers still want to keep Matt Carle in the fold. The addition of Schenn has not changed the team's plans with regard to Carle, who had 38 points last season. The 27-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent July 1 if he and the Flyers don't come to terms. Carle made $3.8 million this past year.

The Flyers remain optimistic about their chances to retain Matt Carle. According to Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquierer the deal is expected to be in the "$4.5 million per season neighborhood." Under their current commitments, that contract would put them just past the current cap, though it's expected to change under the new collective bargaining agreement. The 27-year-old Carle had four goals and 34 assists this past season.

Philadelphia GM Paul Holgren believes he can re-sign potential unrestricted free agent Matt Carle. "I have had enough conversations with Matt to know what he is about and know that he wants to stay in Philadelphia," Holmgren said. "We'll see how it all works out." The Flyers are hopeful that they will be able to agree to a deal that will pay him slighly below his market value, as it is projected that he could earn around $5 million per year if he enters free agency. His previous contract was a four-year, $13.7 million deal.

Matt Carle underwent surgery to repair a torn stomach muscle. Carle is projected to take four-to-six weeks to recover. In other words, he should be fine well before the start of training camp.

Matt Carle is eligible for unrestricted free agency this summer but Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren believes the reliable defenseman will re-sign with the Flyers. "I don't see any reason why we can't work out a deal," Holmgren said. "His demands, when I spoke with him and his agent, nothing was ever out of line. Could we get him under market value? I would say that we probably could. I don't see any issues there."

Matt Carle is eligible for unrestricted free agency this summer. A source said that the Flyers would like to re-sign him and veteran forward Jaromir Jagr. GM Paul Holmgren will probably announce his off-season plans shortly after Philadelphia was bounced from the playoffs in five games by New Jersey. Carle had 38 points and a plus-4 rating in 82 games during the regular season and he recorded six points and a minus-3 rating in 11 playoff contests.
