The Philadelphia Flyers have surrendered four power-play goals in five attempts over their past two games and defenseman Matt Carle thinks he knows what's going on. "I think it just comes down to [the fact] we're getting the opportunities to clear pucks and block shots, and we're not doing it - and it's really been killing us," Carle said, adding that the Flyers need to be more aggressive and not sit back as much on the penalty kill. "It seems like we're always playing from behind," Carle said. "I can't remember the last time we scored the first goal in a game, and that's been the biggest thing that's killed us. It's one of the things we need to iron out as we come down the stretch."

Matt Carle is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but he would like to remain with the Philadelphia Flyers. "The general consensus is that hopefully something works out here," Carle said. "That's what my main focus is, wanting to be here. My wife [Clancey] and I love it here. Looking back on it, getting traded here [from Tampa Bay] was a huge blessing in disguise. This organization is a place where, no matter what, they're going to be making moves to be a contender. You want to be a part of an organization that is committed to that." With Chris Pronger sidelined, Carle has become the ice time leader in Philadelphia with an average of just over 23 minutes per contest. He has also chipped in four goals and 28 points from the back end in 53 games, while posting 104 blocked shots.

Ilya Bryzgalov will capture much of the attention for the Philadelphia Flyers' 6-4 loss to the Ottawa Senators, but Matt Carle was pretty lousy too. Carle managed to notch an assist in the game, but that doesn't negate his ugly -4 rating. That's Carle in a nutshell, though; he's a nice offensive producer who suffers from his fair share of miserable defensive nights.

Matt Carle registered three assists in the Flyers' 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night. The 26-year-old blueliner has 18 points on the season and must be owned in 14-team leagues now that Chris Pronger will miss the rest of the regular season because of severe post-concussion syndrome. Carle will get more time on the power play and should also help in the plus/minus category.
