Defenseman Marc Methot will be out for some time after an injury on Friday night. Methot blocked a shot with his hand, breaking his finger. "It exploded when he got hit by the puck. It was opened up to the point where ... well, I don't want to gross anybody out, but it was ugly. It exposed the tip, put it that way. They stitched it up, but the top part of it is broken," said coach Scott Arniel. He will be out of the lineup on Saturday.

Mark Methot (lower body) will be back in the Columbus lineup on Friday. The Blue Jackets take on the Red Wings and will be happy to get Methot back as he is a solid defenseman. It appears that David Savard will be a healthy scratch. Methot has no fantasy value.

Marc Methot (lower body) took part in Wednesday's practice. "He moved pretty good today," Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel said. "That's a good sign. Having him against Detroit would be big." The Blue Jackets will play the Red Wings on Friday. We'll keep you posted.

Marc Methot's previously undisclosed injury is related to his lower body. Methot missed Tuesday's game after sustaining the injury on Saturday. He should be considered day-to-day for now.

Blue Jackets defenseman Marc Methot was not able to participate in practice Sunday after suffering an injury in Saturday's game against Dallas. The team has not publicly announced the nature of the injury, reporting only that Methot "tweaked something". His status for Tuesday's game against the Stars is unknown at this point.

It looks like Marc Methot will not be suspended for his hit on Vancouver's Henrik Sedin during Monday's game. Methot hit Sedin from behind after Sedin had gotten rid of the puck, but Methot claimed he attempted to let up. The Canucks' Kevin Bieksa thought Methot should get suspended for his actions, but it appears that the two minutes Methot served for boarding is all the punishment that he'll receive.

A second period hit Monday night by Blue Jackets defenseman Marc Methot on Vancouver's Henrik Sedin drew the ire of the Canucks, who want the league to do something about it. Methot was closing in from behind on Sedin right after Sedin got rid of the puck at the red line, just in between the penalty boxes. Methot had speed but appeared to try to hit the breaks before he hammered Sedin, sending him into the glass and down to the ice. Methot was given a two-minute minor for boarding. "I wanted to play nasty with him, but I didn't mean to hit him the way I did," Methot said. "I don't want to say he turned. He's a smart player. I let up. I'm sure that showed up on the relay. Like I said, it wasn't intentional." The Canucks took exception to the hit. "That's obviously a hit we're trying to get rid of," Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa said. "There's no need to explode through a guy when his back is to you. I know (NHL VP of player safety Brendan) Shanahan showed in a few cases where there was an opportunity for a guy to bury someone from behind and he eased up on him."

Marc Methot has signed a four-year/$12 million deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Methot will earn $2.25 million next season and then enjoy a $500,000 pay increase every season until his deal expires. That's more than we think Methot is worth, but he's hardly the only player to get overpaid this summer. Methot doesn't have any fantasy value, but to be fair, he is a solid defensive defenseman. He was second on the team with 176 hits and ranked third in Columbus with 98 blocked shots in 74 games last season.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are still interested in signing a free agent blueliner to play alongside Marc Methot. There are a number of serviceable defensemen left on the market. It is believed that they would rather ink someone to a short-term deal so that the door is still open for one of their defensemen prospects to secure a position on the club in a year or two. With that in mind, we wouldn't be surprised if the Blue Jackets decide to wait a few weeks and then scoop a blueliner out of the bargain bin.
