Newly-acquired Marc Methot is eager to play for his hometown Senators and he believes his best hockey has yet to be played. Ottawa acquired him July 1 in a deal for Nick Foligno. "You can absolutely call it a fresh start," said Methot. "I'm going to get a chance to play in front of my family and friends. I don't think the situation could be any better. I've been taking the situation pretty serious this summer with regards with my training and preparing so I don't let people down. ... "I'm starting to come into my prime as a player," he said. "I'm at the age where I feel like I can actually be a factor on a team and play some big minutes." There's already some speculation that the defensive-minded blueliner could fit in with Erik Karlsson on the top pairing.

Marc Methot met the Ottawa media on Tuesday and spoke about the possibility of partnering with Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Erik Karlsson next season. "You guys (media) aren't the first to bring that up, obviously," he said. "If I played with Karlsson, I would probably just give him the puck most of the time. He's an exceptional defenseman. Right now, I have no control over that. I don't know what's going to happen. I can control what I can on the ice. I can prepare myself. I'm prepared for that role. I've played a similar role before. But right now, that's up to management and coaches and we'll see how things work out at training camp." The defensive-minded blueliner would seemingly be a good fit alongside the offensive-minded Karlsson.

Columbus has shipped Marc Methot to Ottawa for forward Nick Foligno. He skated in 46 games with the Blue Jackets last season because of injury, but should be an adequate replacement for free agent defender Filip Kuba on the Senators back end. The Ottawa native could even land Kuba's old position old position alongside offensive stud Erik Karlsson.

Marc Methot returned to the Team Canada lineup on Saturday after missing Friday's game with a groin injury. It was the first game of meaning that Methot has played in since suffering a broken jaw on Feb. 9. He did play in some exhibition games for Team Canada before the World Tournament began. Methot was on the ice for 12:33 minutes and should see more ice time on Monday as the Canadian coaching staff were a little tentative with Methot's groin injury, not wanting the defenseman to re-injure it by overplaying him.
