Marc-Edouard Vlasic has been named to the Team Canada squad for the upcoming World Championships. While Vlasic would rather be involved in the Stanley Cup playoffs, it's a good time to continue playing hockey as the Worlds are in Finland and Sweden. The 25-year-old had 23 points from the blueline this season.

The Sharks' penalty-killing is costing them big-time in their first-round series with the Blues. San Jose allowed three power-play goals on four chances in their 4-3 Game loss, and their efforts on the penalty kill have been a major problem in the postseason as they've allowed goals in each of the three games. If the Sharks want to extend this series, their best bet is to stay out of the box -- they also had the second-worst penalty-kill percentage in the league during the regular season. "It affects your confidence, your ability to keep going," coach Todd McLellan said. "It changes the way you play the game. Sometimes you're not as aggressive as you should be because you're afraid to go to the box. There's no doubt about it. We have to fix it."

Marc-Edouard Vlasic was the goat of the game on Saturday as he put the puck in his own net on the first St. Louis goal. It happened 1:31 into the second period and while fellow defenseman Dan Boyle said that it wasn't a factor, his netminder Antti Niemi disagreed and threw him under the bus. "I think that's what changed the game," said Niemi. "We had to chase them all the way and we couldn't tie it. That changed the whole game, I think." You don't exactly love teammates like that.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic will play tonight wearing a full cage to protect swelling beneath his eye. Vlasic took a deflected puck to the face Sunday against Detroit. He stayed off the ice Monday, but made the trip to Columbus and practiced this morning with a full cage. Vlasic has 19 points (4 goals) this season, which is one more than he had in 2010-11. The 24-year-old is also a plus-18.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic (face) might miss Tuesday's game if the swelling below his eye hinders his vision. "That's my main concern because if I look down, I might not be able to see the puck," Vlasic said. He was struck in the face by a shot on Sunday.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic might have been able to avoid a major injury after being struck in the face by a shot on Sunday. Vlasic didn't have to go to the hospital and he did travel with the Sharks to Columbus for Tuesday's game. "I think it glanced off his shield and got him kind of in the nose," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. "That's all I know." For now, consider him available for Tuesday's game, but we'll let you know if his status changes.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic was assessed a 10-minute misconduct in the Sharks 3-0 loss to St. Louis Sunday. The Sharks were shut out in the contest so there wasn't much in the way of noteworthy fantasy performances. Vlasic racked up 12 penalty minutes in total for the game while Dan Boyle led the team with four shots on goal. He also received two penalty minutes and registered a minus-1 rating.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic has been selected as the NHL's second star of the week. Vlasic had a goal and a stunning seven points in three games last week. He has some offensive upside, as demonstrated by his 36-point season in 2008-09, but for the most part, he's been known more for his defensive contributions in recent seasons. Perhaps his recent outburst is the start of a comeback campaign, but for now we can only recommend him as a short-term option.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic has a goal and seven points in his last three games. Vlasic recorded a career-high 36 points in 2008-09, but he's gone onto score just seven goals and 34 points in 144 games over the following two seasons. He now has a respectable 11 points this season, although it's hard to read too much into it because of how much that total has been skewed by his hot streak. He's a decent short-term option, but he's a big long-term gamble.
