Kris Versteeg was back at practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday's contest with the flu. He skated alongside Stephen Weiss and Tomas Fleischmann in the session and stayed out afterward with several teammates to work on shootout drills. Coach Kevin Dineen wouldn't guarantee his return on Friday though, saying the winger's status will be determined following the morning skate.

Kris Versteeg will be unavailable for Wednesday night's match against Washington because of the flu. The illness has prevented him from getting back on the ice since the All-Star break, so he should be considered day-to-day for now. Versteeg leads the Panthers with 19 goals and 43 points this season, so his absence from the lineup will be felt on a team that doesn't get much in the way of secondary offense.

Kris Versteeg is listed as a game-time decision for Wednesday's contest against Washington due to flu-like symptoms. He skipped practice for a second consecutive day on Tuesday. Tomas Kopecky skated on Florida's top line, with Stephen Weiss and Tomas Fleischmann, in Versteeg's place.

Kris Versteeg is hoping that his three-point outburst in Saturday's shootout win over Winnipeg can get him going offensively again. "I have been kind of brutal as of late," said Versteeg, who had just one assist in nine games going into the contest. "I have been missing a lot of opportunities, a lot of open nets, a lot of breakaways. I think it was just a matter of time before I got a bounce, and [Saturday] was the night."

Kris Versteeg didn't skate on any of Florida's four lines at practice on Wednesday morning, but says he'll play against the Colorado Avalanche. "I want to be out there and I'm going to be out there," he said. "I feel fine and I'm ready to go. It's more of a precautionary thing to see this morning." Coach Kevin Dineen described Versteeg's absence as a "health decision," but we'll take Versteeg at his word that he'll dress.

Kris Versteeg was on the ice for just 1:19 minutes in the third period of Friday's game. "I think that was a pretty strong reflection of what my feelings were on his play and that's not a one-game snapshot," Panthers coach Kevin Dineen said. "I don't do that based on one game. I think there's been a stretch of games where he .is such an important leadership role for this team need to play a higher level of hockey." Versteeg is having one of the best seasons of his career, but he has just one assist in his last six games. Maybe being put in Dineen's doghouse will motivate him to snap out of his cold streak.
