Poulin is one of only a few options fighting for a chance to back up Ben Bishop in goal for the Lightning ahead of the upcoming season, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kristers Gudlevskis is reportedly the only other internal option at this point. Poulin, claimed off waivers (from the Islanders) on Sunday, is the more experienced of the two twine tenders so that could give him an advantage. Ben Bishop is locked in as the starting goalie in Tampa Bay, so this news mostly concerns the team's goalie depth at this point.

Poulin was claimed off of waivers by the Lightning on Sunday, Isles' beat writer Arthur Staple reports.
EDGE Analysis
Poulin was expected to clear waivers and head to AHL Bridgeport, but the Lightning decided to take a chance on him. He spent the majority of the 2014-15 season in the AHL, going 16-21-0 with a 2.87 GAA and a .912 save percentage over 45 games. He offers the Lightning depth at the goalie position.

Poulin was placed on waivers Saturday, reports Newsday's Arthur Staple.
EDGE Analysis
Poulin was once thought to be a possible starting goaltender for the Islanders but that time seems to have come to an end. Assuming he passes through waivers, he will likely report to Bridgeport of the AHL where he will still be in a battle for a starting spot.

Poulin was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday, Andy Graziano of Islanders Insight reports. Poulin was recalled on an emergency basis for Saturday's regular season finale due to a Michal Neuvirth injury. It appears the issue was minor, however, as he's now been returned to the AHL.

Poulin was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on an emergency basis Saturday. The Islanders revealed Saturday morning that Michal Neuvirth is dealing with an undisclosed injury, which will more than likely keep him unavailable for the game later in the evening against the Blue Jackets. With top netminder Jaroslav Halak having played a night earlier in Pittsburgh, it seems likely that Poulin could get the nod for the Isles' regular-season finale. Poulin made one previous start for the Islanders, stopping 23 of 26 shots in a shootout loss to the Sabres on Dec. 27. He won't make for a strong streaming option if he gets the call Saturday.

Poulin was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Thursday, NHL.com's Brian Compton reports. Poulin's demotion would seem to suggest that Jaroslav Halak (lower body) is at least capable of serving in a backup capacity for Saturday's game against the Devils. The 24-year-old only spent one game with the Islanders, serving as the understudy to Michal Neuvirth.

Poulin was recalled from Bridgeport of the AHL on Monday, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple. Poulin will more than likely be the backup goaltender as Jaroslav Halak didn't join the Islanders on their road trip to Chicago. Poulin will return to Bridgeport as soon as Halak is ready to go.

Poulin allowed three goals on 26 shots in the Islanders' 4-3 shootout loss to Buffalo on Saturday. With Jaroslav Halak (lower body) on injured reserve, Poulin made a surprise start. Things were going quite well ... until the previously dormant Sabres pushed three goals past Poulin during a devastating six-minute span in the third period. Halak could return as early as Monday.

Poulin will be in the net Saturday versus the Sabres. Poulin was a surprise recall from AHL Bridgeport on Saturday morning in the wake of Jaroslav Halak's placement on IR, and will be rewarded right away with his first start for the Islanders this season. However, don't expect him to enjoy a long run as the Isles' starter, as Halak was on the ice for the team's morning skate and could be available as soon as Monday's game against the Capitals. Poulin has been dependable at Bridgeport this season with a 2.41 GAA and .928 save percentage over 20 outings, and could make for a quality, yet inexpensive choice in daily leagues Saturday against a Sabres squad that has dropped four games in a row.
