Former NHLer Kaspars Daugavins, currently playing in the Swiss league, has been an effective member of the Latvian Olympic team with two points and six shots through four games. Latvia takes on the heavily favoured Canadians Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Daugavins had some nice words for the team's head coach Ted Nolan. "We never had a coach that actually believes in the players," Daugavins said. "He actually makes us believe that we're actually a good team." Latvia won their first Olympic game in 12 years, beating Switzerland in Tuesday's qualification game.

Kaspars Daugavins has agreed to a contract with Geneva Servette of the Swiss League. According to player agent Jay Grossman, the deal has an NHL "out clause," if an opportunity to return to North America arises he can pursue it. Daugavins dressed in 25 games between the Ottawa Senators and the Boston Bruins last season.

Boston Bruins decline qualifying offers to forward Kaspars Daugavins and goalie Michael Hutchinson, a source tells CSN New England's Joe Haggety. Daugavins was in and out of the lineup after the Bruins claimed him off waivers from the Senators. Sadly, the fourth-line winger is known more for a failed shootout move than anything he did in an actual game. Hutchinson was the 77th overall pick in 2008 but never made it to the NHL level.

Kaspars Daugavins was back on the fourth line during Saturday's morning skate. Carl Soderberg saw shifts on the fourth line during Friday's skate, while Daugavins skated as the odd man out. It isn't clear who the Bruins will go with yet in Game 5, but the pregame warmup should give a better indication.

There is a chance that Kaspar Daugavins will be the odd man out for Saturday night's Game 5 in Chicago. He has not been effective with limited minutes on the Bruins' fourth line and may be a healthy scratch in favor of Carl Soderberg who practied on the fourth unit during Friday's scrimmages. If Soderberg does play, it will be his first playoff action in the NHL.

Kaspars Daugavins had a great chance to win Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals in the third overtime session but he misfired. "There was an opportunity to win a game and get a 1-0 lead in the series, and two, three minutes later we go down 1-0," he said. "I should take a little blame for it. I should have put it in there and give the team the lead. It wasn't bouncing. I had everything like I wanted to do, except I miss-shot it. I was falling while I was shooting and I just missed the puck." Daugavins wasn't the only player to have a great chance to score in overtime, but he may have taken the loss harder than most because of his lost opportunity. He and the Bruins will try to bounce back in Game 2.

Kaspars Daugavins played well in Game 4 as Gregory Campbell's replacement on a line with Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley. Daugavins had some jump to his game considering he hadn't played much since the opening round of the playoffs. In fact, he had one of Boston's better scoring chances when he hit the post in the second period. "I felt good; I had a lot of energy at the start," said Daugavins. "I didn't play that much but every time I got out there I enjoyed every second of it. I tried to keep it simple because I hadn't played in a while and it worked. Get pucks deep and try to start a cycle and back check, it worked well." Good to see the former Senator get a chance in the post-season.

Kaspars Daugavins is projected to play alongside Rich Peverley and Tyler Seguin. Daugavins will be playing in his third career playoff game after Gregory Campbell suffered a broken fibula. There's a decent chance that Daugavins will play in every Bruins' game for the remainder of the postseason.
