Williams picked up two assists in Friday's loss to Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
Williams is now up to 16 points in 21 contests and is one of the better depth scorers around. The veteran has been very consistent with his offensive production and is showing he's still got plenty of gas left in the tank. He's stuck on just three goals, but Williams fired five shots on goal Friday and is sure to start picking it up in that department. Use him well.

Williams registered a primary assist followed by an empty-net goal as the Hurricanes edged the Panthers 3-1 at home.
EDGE Analysis
This was the third two-point effort of the season for Williams, who's a bit of an enigma in the attacking zone. However, despite the spotty production, he typically falls in the 40-point range by season's end.

Williams posted an assist at even strength and on the power play Sunday, having done his fair share in a 4-3 home loss to the Ducks that went through a shootout.
EDGE Analysis
He was unable to convert for the first shootout attempt of the game. It's been a campaign filled with peaks and valleys for Williams, as he snapped a three-game pointless drought Friday against the Blues and now has three points in his last two contests. The veteran is averaging a respectable 2:40 of ice time on the man advantage for a Carolina squad that sits in the middle of the pack in that special teams category, converting six of 35 opportunities.

Williams was held off the scoresheet for the third straight game Thursday against the Maple Leafs. He finished the game with a minus-1 rating with five shots on goal.
EDGE Analysis
After storming out of the gate with five points in his first five games, Williams is scuffling a bit right now, which is to be expected over the course of an 82-game season. The good news is, even though Williams is currently skating on the third line, his average ice time is still a very respectable 16:53, including 2:48 on the power play. Don't forget, the Canes added Williams as a means to upgrade their offense in the off-season, so they will give him every opportunity to succeed in that regard. Keep him rolling.

Williams snagged two even-strength assists Tuesday night, helping the Hurricanes to a 5-3 road win over the Oilers.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran winger is off to a pretty good start in his reunion tour with the 'Canes; he's producing in 5-on-5 situations and on the power play, collecting four points in as many games, including a pair of man-advantage helpers. He's a worthy fantasy starter in most settings.

Williams enters Tuesday's home contest versus the Blue Jackets having tallied 23 points and a plus-13 rating against them over 33 career appearances.
EDGE Analysis
This is an adequate sample size for fantasy owners to get a good idea about how J-Will could perform in this next contest. He's a 16-year veteran in his second go-around with the Hurricanes, but he's also played for the Flyers, Kings and Capitals, amassing 273 goals and 410 assists over 1,081 career games. He did some damage in the season opener Saturday, adding a power-play helper and 3:08 of ice time in a 5-4 shootout win over the Wild.

Williams signed a two-year contract with the Hurricanes on Saturday, TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Williams will return to Carolina after playing with the club for parts of five seasons between 2003-04 and 2008-09. The veteran winger proved himself still productive with the Capitals last season, collecting 48 points (24 goals, 24 assists) over 80 games. He will join a Hurricanes organization that didn't near Washington's scoring rate last season, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise if the aging Williams' fantasy value took a hit entering 2017-18. However, he should slot into a top-six role with the club and see considerable ice time.

Williams, a pending unrestricted free agent, is not likely to re-sign with the Capitals, Darren Dreger of TSN reports, adding that the veteran winger has narrowed his list to 3-to-4 other teams.
EDGE Analysis
Williams was exposed in the expansion draft, but it was actually defenseman Nate Schmidt who ended up in Vegas from the Capitals. According to Cap Friendly, Washington has $17.5 million in current cap space available, but only 34 of a maximum 50 players under contract for the 2017-18 season, so with that fact, coupled with last week's signing of winger T.J. Oshie to an eight-year, $46 million extension, it's no wonder that GM Brian MacLellan is letting Williams test the open market.

Williams was left unprotected heading by Washington heading into the expansion draft, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
General manager Brian MacLellan appears to have had a clear plan in place regarding his protected players as none of the Capitals' unrestricted free agents -- including Williams -- was protected. It would seem to be a sound strategy as it prevents Washington from losing a player in free agency that they elected to not make available, thereby risking another player who was under contract. The 35-year-old notched his fourth straight 40-plus point season in 2016-17 and would seem like a near lock if not for the availability of T.J. Oshie, Philipp Grubauer, and Brooks Orpik.

Williams has a second meeting scheduled with Capitals GM Brian MacLellan concerning the winger's future with the team, JJ Regan of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.
EDGE Analysis
J-Will is a pending unrestricted free agent, but he'd be a tough one to lose given his status as a veteran playmaker heavily utilized on the power play in recent years. Williams racking up 100 points between the past two seasons is sure to help him command a loftier contract no matter where he ends up. The 35-year-old is cashing out the balance of a two-year, $6.5 million deal, with no signs of slowing down his offensive production.
