Williams may not maintain his current rabid pace, but judging that his hot streak coincides with when he started playing in the top-six again, he should continue to fantasy owners plenty of goals.

After a slow start to the season, the 34-year-old winger has been on fire since mid-December, as he has 10 goals and 18 points in his last 20 games, along with a plus-8 rating. Firing on all cylinders on a line with Evgeny Kuznetsov and Marcus Johansson, the former Conn Smythe Trophy winner is finally producing like the capable top-six winger he has been throughout his career and is worth owning in most formats.

Williams opened the scoring 1:14 into the first period with a power-play goal, then added two assists, two PIM and a plus-3 rating in Tuesday's 6-5 overtime win against Toronto.

EDGE Analysis

Absolutely brutal to start the year -- four points in the first 23 games -- Williams has quietly come on over the last month. In his last 14 games, the winger's racked up eight goals and 15 points, with a dozen PIM and a plus-5 rounding out his line nicely. The buy-low window's probably closed in deeper formats, but the veteran might be on the wire in shallower leagues after his slow start.

Williams has been excellent in December, posting six goals -- one on the power play -- and three assists -- two during the man advantage -- to go along with six PIM. The 35-year-old totaled four combined points before this month, and his recent consistent surge in production puts him back on the fantasy radar.

It's been a disappointing start to the season for Williams, as he entered Wednesday's game with just two goals and five points over 24 games. He'll need to string together a few more productive nights before he can be counted on in the majority of fantasy formats, especially since he's in the midst of his age-34 campaign.

EDGE Analysis

The helper marks just the fourth point in 20 games for the veteran winger; a precipitous decline in production for the 34-year-old winger who is coming off three straight 40+ point seasons. With T.J. Oshie (upper body) on the shelf, Williams is seeing a bump in overall ice time and getting more looks on Washington's top power-play unit, but once the Capitals have a healthy lineup, it's hard to see him retaining such a prominent role given his current level of production.

The helper ended a five-game point drought for the 34-year-old winger who has had a very slow start to the season with just two points in the first 10 games after a 52-point campaign in 2015-16. With reduced ice time and the lowest shooting percentage since 2009-10, Williams is in a pretty bad slump, and while thing's should improve, he may not attain the expectations many fantasy owners had at the outset of the season.

Williams practiced on the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom on Friday, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports.

EDGE Analysis

Despite having only one goal on the season, the 34-year-old winger is apparently getting a promotion as head coach Barry Trotz looks to shake up a suddenly stagnant Washington offense. As long as Williams can stick in the top-six, he holds decent value in most formats, so keep an eye on his ice time in the short-term. He may be worth a speculative add in standard formats and decent upside in daily leagues for the time being.
