Justin Schultz has a goal and an assist in two games since returning from a groin injury on Tuesday. There was never any doubt as to the offensive game of Schultz as he is talented on the offensive side of the game but his defensive play leaves a lot to be desired as he is minus-seven this season after a minus-17 rookie year in 2012-13. He has been plus-three in the two games since his return but do not expect that to last. He has two goals and nine points in 16 games this season.

Justin Schultz (groin) might be available to play Tuesday. He practiced on Monday and Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal believes there's a good chance that the offensive defender will return when the Oilers host Columbus. Schultz wasn't as confident. "I can't say for sure I'm in but I felt good today," he said. "Hopefully I wake up tomorrow with no problems." Schultz hasn't played since Oct. 29 because of a groin injury. Consider him questionable.

Justin Schultz (groin) hasn't resumed skating yet. He's considered doubtful to play this weekend when Edmonton closes out their road trip with back-to-back games in Philadelphia (Saturday) and Chicago (Sunday). Schultz hasn't played since Oct. 29.

Justin Schultz is dealing with a "groin/rib" injury, according to the Edmonton Journal. As a result, he didn't make it through Friday's practice. Edmonton has recalled Phillip Larsen from the AHL just in case Schultz can't play Saturday. His chances for this game seem iffy at best.

While Justin Schultz has seven points in 14 games, it's his play on defense and away from the puck that is still a work in progress. Schultz is a minus-10 on the season. "We think Justin can turn into an elite defenseman," Oilers coach Dallas Eakins said. "Over time. And that means over several years, not time being over two months or one year. If you look at the elite defensemen in the game, the ones that have come before him - (Chris) Pronger, (Scott) Niedermayer, (Niklas) Lidstrom - players of that nature that he should aspire to be, the first thing they did very, very well before they did anything else was defend. Justin has taken great strides with that early on. He's accepted the message. And it's something he's been more cognizant of and he's got a real good read now of when to jump in and when not to."

Justin Schultz scored a goal as the Oilers fell to the Capitals 4-1 Thursday night. It was Schultz's first goal of the season and he spoiled Braden Holtby's shutout bid by taking a feed from David Perron and scoring from in tight. Schultz now has six points in eleven games this season with an awful minus-eight rating.

Justin Schultz registered an assist in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals. Schultz now has four points in six games this season. He also has a dreadful minus-six rating and that's more likely to get worse by the end of the 2013-14 campaign than better. If you can tolerate that though, then he's likely good for another 35 or so points this season on top of the four that he's already recorded.

Highly touted defenseman Justin Schultz had a poor minus-19 rating in his first season with the Edmonton Oilers in 2013 and perhaps now we know why. In an interview, Schultz said he got tired. "At times, I was feeling fatigued because I wasn't used to that many games," said Schultz. "Overall, I think it was a good first year and I'm looking to improve on it." In the shortened season with the Oilers, he had 8 goals and 19 assists. He also had 48 points in 34 games with the Oilers' AHL team in Oklahoma City during the NHL lockout. So, as Joe Yerdon points out at www.prohockeytalk.com, that's 75 points worth of production for a guy in his first professional season.
