Justin Schultz is just two goals away from tying the AHL record for a rookie defenseman. Schultz already has 18 goals and 46 points in just 33 games with the Oklahoma City Barons. The NHL and union might agree to a new CBA soon, so it's possible that he won't be able to break that record before the theoretical start of the Oilers' campaign. However, if the NHL season is lost, he'll probably easily shatter that record. He might also make a run for the single-season goal-scoring record for a defenseman at any stage of his career, which is 30.

Justin Schultz scored, but Oklahoma City was defeated handily by Grand Rapids on Friday night 5-2. We'll know within the week if we can watch Schultz on NHL rinks, but for now he'll continue to dominate in the AHL. He has an unbelievable 18 goals and 28 assists on the year, which slots him second in points to teammate Jordan Eberle, who had an assist in the loss to give him 50 points.

Justin Schultz was held off the scoresheet in the Oklahoma City Barons' 3-2 shootout win against the San Antonio Rampage on Friday. Schultz lost his spot atop the AHL points leaderboard to teammate Jordan Eberle as a result. That has more to do with how good Eberle's been lately than Schultz slowing down significantly. Schultz still has five goals and 11 points in 10 games this month.

Justin Schultz and Jordan Eberle are tied for the AHL scoring lead with 40 points. The Edmonton Oilers duo are playing for the farm club in Oklahoma City and are tearing up the league as they have a ten point lead on Cam Atkinson, Keith Aucoin and Tyler Johnson. This is Schultz's first professional season and for a defenseman to be tied for the lead in scoring is quite an accomplishment. While his defensive play still needs work, his offensive skills will translate very well to the NHL and therefore he should be drafted fairly highly this season, especially in keeper pools.

Justin Schultz scored a goal in Friday's contest. Schultz is leading the AHL in points and isn't showing any signs of slowing down. He has recorded at least a point in 12 of his last 13 contests. Schultz was recently named as the top prospect already affiliated with an NHL club by TSN and given his success in the minors, it's not hard to see why.

Canadian sports network TSN has compiled a Top 30 list of prospects that are already affiliated with NHL clubs and the Oilers' Justin Schultz is atop it. TSN scout and former NHL general manager Craig Button was responsible for the list. He explains the selection of Schultz this way: "Justin leads the AHL in scoring as of December 14, 2012 and has shown to be everything, and perhaps even a little more, the Oilers were hoping for." Button feels Schultz would fit in very well with the Oilers when the lockout finally gets resolved. "Justin possesses all of the necessary elements to be a catalyst for what looks to be exciting times ahead for the Edmonton faithful. His combination of excellent skating, passing, thinking, anticipation and the desire to make a difference when it matters most, gives the Oilers a look of a player they have not had since the days of Paul Coffey. While Paul remains one of, if not perhaps the best skater in NHL history, Justin looks to provide similar type impact from his defense position."
