Justin Abdelkader (leg) might return to Detroit's lineup next week. If he manages to resume skating at some point this week then that could be a possibility. He has been out of commission since suffering a lacerated leg on Mar. 16 against Chicago.

Justin Abdelkader will skate on the wing of Detroit's second line against the Kings Saturday night. He was needed at center on the third unit Thursday against San Jose but with the recall of Riley Sheehan from the AHL, Abdelkader can return to a more familiar role. He has more fantasy value in a second-unit capacity.

Justin Abdelkader scored the game-tying goal for Detroit in their 3-2 shootout loss to Toronto during Wednesday's Winter Classic showdown. "Whether it was 'Go, Leafs go!' or 'Let's go, Red Wings!' it was a lot of fun," he said. "It was better than I ever thought. The elements, the snow coming down the whole game, it was awesome. I couldn't think of a way the experience could've been better, besides winning the game. It was really cool." Abdelkader has scored in his last two outings to give him five on the year. He has 15 points and 113 hits in 37 contests. From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20140102/SPORTS0103/301020030#ixzz2pGA83NQe

However, coach Mike Babcock wouldn't confirm that Abdelkader will be back. The Red Wings bench boss said; "Abdelkader's another guy too that I think might be available. We'll know more after the morning skate."
