NHL Players' Association executive director Donald Fehr believes the season can begin on time even without a new collective bargaining agreement in place. About 50 players, including Jonathan Toews, Alex Ovechkin Brian Campbell and Shea Weber met with Fehr on Monday in Chicago to go over plans for the their side of the CBA talks. Meetings will last through Wednesday. The current CBA expires Sept. 15 and the biggest negotiating point is likely to be revenue sharing. "There's plenty of time to negotiate an agreement between now and Sept. 15," Fehr said. "By the way, there's nothing magic about Sept. 15. The law is if you don't have a new agreement, as long as both sides are willing to keep negotiating you continue under the terms of the old one until you reach an agreement."

Jonathan Toews, who missed nearly two months because of a concussion, is feeling 100%. Toews had 29 goals and 57 points in 59 games in 2011-12. We wouldn't be surprised if he reaches the 80-point mark for the first time in 2012-13 if he can stay healthy.

Jonathan Toews has decided against playing for Team Canada in the upcoming World Championship. Toews missed nearly two months due to a concussion before returning on April 12. "For now, the smart play is just to rest and make sure everything is clear and is behind me," Toews said.

Chicago's problems on the power play reared its head in its playoff-series loss to Phoenix. The Blackhawks finished 27th in the league in power-play percentage and were only able to muster up one goal on 19 chances in the opening-round series. They had only three shots on two opportunities Monday. "It's frustrating," Jonathan Toews said. "It's not like we weren't trying or we didn't care. We had a lot of skill out there. We just couldn't get it done. It was kind of that way all season, and we can't just come into the playoffs and expect to turn on the switch and see a better power play. "Sometimes in these games when you can't score five-on-five or their goalie is standing on his head, you have to find a way to do it on their power play, and we didn't."

Jonathan Toews sniped the game-winning goal in overtime as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night 2-1 o stay alive in their first-round series. Toews had the series first marker, and this one couldn't come at a better time as it helped the Hawks stave off elimination, though they're still down three games to two. Though, it wouldn't have been possible without Nick Leddy's first of the postseason, which came midway through the third period to tie the game at one. Viktor Stalberg, Brandon Saad, Michael Frolik has the assists. Leddy finished with a team-high five shots on net and a plus-two rating, while Stalberg had all eight of the team's penalty minutes.

The Phoenix Coyotes were able to keep Chicago Blackhawks stars such as Jonathan Toews off the board in a 3-2 OT win that gave Phoenix a 2-1 series lead. Toews, Duncan Keith, Patrick Sharp and other big names were unable to collect a point in the game. Patrick Kane was able to get an assist, however. Both Toews and Sharp had -1 ratings and six shots on goal. Andrew Brunette and Michael Frolik were Chicago's goal scorers.

Jonathan Toews thinks the NHL should have set an example with Shea Weber after he smashed Henrik Zetterberg's head into the glass in Game 1 of their first-round series. Instead, the league slapped only a $2,500 fine on the Predators defenseman. For a league trying to eliminate head injuries -- and for someone who missed 22 games with a concussion -- Toews is perplexed. "In a situation like that with Weber, more than anything you should make an example of it, regardless of whether he's a star player," said Toews. "They have been trying to make an example of things like that so they don't happen again and all of a sudden you let one slide like that. Everyone must feel like they're back to square one. So it is frustrating."

Jonathan Toews thinks that playing at home in Game 3 of their first round series will be a big boost for the Blackhawks. "It's a huge difference," Toews said. "Especially (with us) winning the second game. Now we're going home with a lot of momentum and excitement. We're looking forward to playing in our own building. (Home ice) is something (that) once you get it, you can't let it go." The Blackhawks have already managed to win a game in Phoenix, so now the Coyotes have to claim at least one game on the road if they want to win this series.

Jonathan Toews, who returned from a concussion on Thursday, expects to be hit. The Phoenix Coyotes weren't afraid to hit Toews during Game 1 on Thursday, but he felt fine after the contest. He doesn't plan to change his game and he doesn't expect the Coyotes to treat him any differently. "I expect the worst," Toews said. "I'm going to be at the net, I'm going to be in front of the goalie every whistle. Every chance they get, they're going to take shots. It's no big deal. I'm just happy with the way I dealt with it. (I'll) keep playing and not shy away from that sort of thing."

Jonathan Toews was fine after in his first game after missing 22 straight with a concussion. Toews was in on both Chicago goals in a 3-2 overtime loss to Phoenix. The Coyotes were tough on him, banging him around and shoving their gloves into his face at every opportunity but Toews came out of the game all right. "I felt as good as I possibly could," Toews said afterward. "You know it's going to be a fast, intense, physical game and you do everything you can just to play smart. Just went to the net hard and try to let kaner and hoss make the plays." Look for more of the same the rest of the series as the Coyotes need to stop the Blackhawks best player.
