Jonathan Ericsson will have surgery on his broken finger.
Ericsson is out for at least two weeks after sustaining the injury on Wednesday. The Detroit Red Wings have been decimated by injuries this season and there seems to be no end in sight to their bad luck. All things considered, it's remarkable that they're still in the fight for a playoff spot.

Jonathan Ericsson will play on Sweden's Olympic team with his brother, Jimmie, next month in Sochi, Russia.
"I'm almost more happy that he's on the team, too," said the Red Wings defenseman. "It makes me happy for both of us to be able to play together. We've tried in a couple of World Championships and he got hurt both of them." Jimmie plays right wing for Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League, where he has 10 goals and 21 points in 33 games. Jonathan might be able to return from his broken ribs within the next two weeks.

Jonathan Ericsson's upper-body injury has been revealed to be two fractured ribs.
Ericsson will need three-to-five weeks to recover. In fantasy circles, Ericsson isn't a key player with eight points and 24 penalty minutes in 29 games this season. However, this is a significant loss for Detroit as they have leaned heavily on Ericsson this season.

Jonathan Ericsson exited Monday's game early in the second period and didn't return after a collision with Islanders' hit machine Matt Martin.
He appeared to be favoring his left upper body when he left the ice. Coach Mike Babcock said that Ericsson went to the hospital for examination late on Monday night. The Red Wings have been hit hard by the injury bug this year and losing Ericsson again would be a tough pill to swallow.

Jonathan Ericsson is already looking forward to the Winter Classic on Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium.
The Red Wings practiced outdoors on Wednesday at Comerica Park. "I'm just imagining this place being full and I'm thinking about the Big House being more than double this so I'm really looking forward to what's going to happen on (Jan. 1)," said Ericsson. "It's a pretty cool feeling." He has eight points and 51 hits in 26 matches this season.
