Jonathan Ericsson has agreed to a six-year, $25.5 million contract extension. "I really like it here," Ericsson said. "For me to be able to get a deal done here, now, it means a lot for me and my family." His current contract comes with a $3.25 million annual cap hit and will expire at the end of this season, so he'll end up costing the Red Wings an extra million annually in cap space going forward. He's locked up through the 2019-20 campaign.

Jonathan Ericsson (shoulder) will be taken off injured reserve in time to play Friday against Washington. The Red Wings sent Jordin Tootoo to the minors on Thursday and the team waived Patrick Eaves in order to make salary cap room for Ericsson's return. He can't be activated until Eaves is either assigned to the minors or he gets claimed. Ericsson has three points, 18 hits and plus-4 rating in nine games.
