Jeff Petry posted a goal and a fight in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to Columbus. His third goal of the year opened the scoring in the contest and he dropped the gloves with Jackets forward Matt Calvert later in the first period. Petry has been very good of late with five points, 11 penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating in his past five games. Ryan Whitney and Magnus Paajarvi also scored for the Oilers in the defeat.

Jeff Petry twisted his leg during Friday's practice. Petry left the skate as a result. Consider him questionable for Saturday's game.

Jeff Petry worked out during the summer so he would have an easier time winning one-on-one battles as a defenseman. It worked as Petry definitely got bigger. "Jeff was our No. 1 ice-time defenseman last year and like many other of our young players, used the time off to strengthen himself," coach Ralph Krueger said. "He's added some pounds and you could see the benefits of that (Sunday) night. After a few adjustments, you could see that there were some situations where we would have liked him to be a little more aggressive and he picked up on that really quick and finished very strong. He knew he needed to add some poundage to have a stronger push back, to be more uncomfortable to play against and we're pleased where he is right now." Petry once again led the Oilers in ice time on Sunday. He is worth selecting, especially in pools that use hits and blocks.

The Oilers signed Jeff Petry to a two-year, $3.5 million extension. The 24-year-old logged 21:45 of ice time per game this past season -- tops on the team -- accumulating two goals and 23 assists in the 73 games. The young rearguard also had 126 hits and 126 blocked shots. A contract for $1.75 million per year seems like money well spent for Edmonton.

Jeff Petry is expected to be back in Edmonton's lineup Thursday after he was hit in the face by a clearing attempt on Mar. 20. "The puck came off the glass and I couldn't get my hand up quickly enough," he said. "That play (keeping the puck in at the point) happens a thousand times and nothing happens. The puck clipped my visor, right below the eye. I wasn't sure if there were any fractures at the time. I'm fine now. I've still got all my teeth." Petry missed two games because his face was badly swollen.

Jeff Petry (face) will not play Sunday against the Ducks. There is no word on whether he will be able to play in games this week. The Oilers have re-called Colten Teubert from the AHL and will dress him along with Cam Barker in place of the injured Petry and Ladislav Smid against Anaheim Sunday.

The Oilers have re-called Jeff Petry from Oklahoma of the AHL prior to Sunday's game. We believe the Oliers are concerned that Andy Sutton will be suspended. Petry obviously has no fantasy value.

Jeff Petry was returned to the minors after Friday's game. Petry was recalled with the knee injury suffered by Ryan Whitney but was a healthy scratch. He will play tonight for the Oilers farm team in Oklahoma City and be recalled in time for Sunday's game.
