Petry (undisclosed) will be out of the lineup Tuesday against the Kings, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Coach Dallas Eakins stated a desire to get top blueline prospect Darnell Nurse some game action after he sat out the previous two games, so it appears Petry's undisclosed ailment will allow him to follow through with the plan. There's nothing to suggest Petry's absence will be a long-term concern, however, so there's a chance he could be available as early as Wednesday versus the Coyotes.

Petry hasn't participated in any exhibition contests after suffering a shoulder injury on the first day of training camp, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports. The injury occurred when Petry collided with teammate Anton Lander in a scrimmage, with his left shoulder taking the brunt of the damage. After taking last week off, Petry has been on the ice with his team for the past two days, with a return to preseason action likely to come later this week. The 26-year-old, who is on a one-year deal with the Oilers, is expected to assume a top-four role on defense. He has some sandpaper in his game (181 hits, 132 blocks in 80 contests in 2013-14), but a minus-22 rating might have limited his overall fantasy impact.

Jeff Petry has agreed to a one-year, $3.1 million contract for the 2014-15 campaign. Petry is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, so he will be the subject of trade rumors if the Oilers once again struggle to make the playoffs. He had 17 points and 42 penalty minutes in 80 games last season.

Jeff Petry (head) was on the ice with the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Petry sustained the injury during Saturday's game, but he's already symptom-free. "I had a little bit of a headache the next day but we couldn't pinpoint it to the hit. I've had a little sinus thing going on and when I took medicine for that, the headache cleared up so this is just precautionary," Petry explained. If all goes well, he'll probably play on Thursday.

Jeff Petry was feeling better on Sunday after leaving Saturday's game with a head injury. Petry was sandwiched by David Jones and Sven Baertschi into the glass and did not return to action. "Jeff's doing better this morning, we're cautiously optimistic that he dodged a bullet," coach Dallas Eakins said. He had six points and a minus-10 rating in 30 games. Consider Petry day-to-day for now.

Jeff Petry suffered a head injury in the second period Saturday and did not return. The Flames David Jones and Sven Baertschi sandwiched Petry into the glass and Petry suffered the head injury. Consider him day-to-day for now. He has six points and a minus-10 rating in 30 games so he really should not have been in your fantasy lineup.

Jeff Petry will be back in the Edmonton Oilers lineup Saturday. Petry was a healthy scratch on Thursday as Martin Marincin made his NHL debut. Coach Dallas Eakins sat Petry as he thought that the defenseman had some tough games of late and he wanted Petry to observe. Marincin or Corey Potter will sit out on Saturday. Petry has six points and a minus-10 rating in 29 games this season and leads the Oilers in average time on ice at 22:03 minutes per game.

Jeff Petry will be a healthy scratch Thursday. The move is especially surprising because Petry leads the Oilers in average ice time at 22:03 per contest. Coach Dallas Eakins is referring to Petry's seat in the press box as an opportunity to "reset" after some tough outings. He appears to taking the decision in stride, which is a good sign. "Dallas said I have to be accountable and like I've said I haven't been playing well ... he wants me to watch and hit the reset button," said Petry. "I can make this situation frustrating or I can sit out and make a positive out of it. He wants me to be harder to play against." Petry has six points and a minus-10 rating in 29 games.
