Jamie Benn potted the game-winning goal in a 4-3 win over Buffalo Monday night. He put the Stars ahead 4-1 in the contest in the third period before a couple of late Sabres' markers made the score close and gave him the winner. Benn has been a consistent producer for Dallas in the early going with four goals and eight assists in 11 games this season.

Jamie Benn tallied a pair of goals in Dallas' 5-1 victory over Calgary Thursday night. The Stars captain extended his point streak to five games by scoring his first goals since Oct. 11. Benn has seven points during his current offensive spree.

Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin are still working on their chemistry with one another after Dallas' first two games of the season. Part of the adjustment is also getting used to their old positions again. Benn had been used at center prior to being switched back to the wing this year, while Seguin had been on the wing in Boston before the Stars put him back at center. "It's a learning experience," said Benn who has one assist in two contests. "You just have to go play games, and you learn something new every game. We both played these positions before, so it comes back quicker, but we still have to get to know each other." Benn and Seguin are viewed as the stars of the present and future for Dallas and they should continue to gel as they play more games. Don't be impatient by their sluggish starts.

As reported earlier, Jamie Benn has been named the new captain of the Dallas Stars. The team confirmed the decision at a press conference Thursday. "I'm deeply humbled and honored to be named the captain of the Dallas Stars," said Benn. "I look forward to representing this organization, my teammates, our fans and this great city in our pursuit to bring another Stanley Cup to Dallas." Dallas has a great deal of faith in Benn and they have been impressed with his development on and off the ice. The Stars also announced that Stephane Robidas and Ray Whitney will serve as the club's alternate captains.

He's expected to take a significant step forward this season and the Stars are hoping that he can forge a strong duo with off-season acquisition Tyler Seguin.

Jamie Benn scored a goal for the Stars in a 3-2 shootout win over Florida in preseason action Wednesday night. Cody Eakin also found the back of the net for the Stars while the goaltending duties were shared evenly between Kari Lehtonen and Christopher Nilstorp. Jacob Markstrom played the entire contest for the Panthers and turned away 28 of 30 shots in the process while the team received goals from Drew Shore and Scottie Upshall.

As far as the players, we're excited about the new guys we got. We've still got a strong core around here. It's going to be an interesting season. Hopefully we can gel quickly." As far as switching positions, Benn is embracing the move from center to winger. "Back to wing. Yeah, I like left wing," he said. "It's my natural position I think. I'm sure you might see me at center a couple games."

While Jamie Benn was one of the more surprising exclusions from Team Canada's orientation camp roster, the Dallas Stars' high-scoring forward is still aiming to make the team in time for the Olympics. Benn said the snub has "given me the fire for the start of the [NHL] season. I want to be on that Olympic team. I'm going to have to go out in the first half of the season and make them want to pick me. I'm just going to have to have the best first half of the year I can have and make an impact for the Dallas Stars." International sport is important to Benn. More than that, it runs in the family. Benn won a gold medal at the 2009 world junior hockey championships and represented Canada in the 2012 IIHF world championships. Dad Randy Benn won gold medals in softball at the 1976 world championships in New Zealand and 1979 Pan American Games in Puerto Rico. "It's a totally different experience [than in club play] when you put on a national team jersey," Benn said. "It's a pretty special feeling to be representing your country."

Jamie Benn should be much more comfortable at left wing in 2013-14. He's expected to be an integral part of the team under new GM Jim Nill and new head coach Lindy Ruff. Tyler Seguin was acquired from Boston to serve as the team's top center and with Benn being shifted back to the wing there's a great deal of hope that the two of them will thrive in their natural positions. Benn could be the next captain of the Dallas Stars and he should be in store for an excellent season.
