Injury: Just 32 seconds into the game Reimer collided with teammate... dailyfaceoff.com Thu 10/17/13 7:56 PM
It appeared as if Reimer took a knee to the head, and with a history of concussions, that is not good. He was able to skate off under his own power, but went straight to the dressing room. Update to follow.
Goalie Start: Reimer is expected to get a second straight start. dailyfaceoff.com Thu 10/17/13 2:56 PM
Reimer stopped 36 of 37 shots in a 4-1 win over the Wild on Tuesday. After Jonathan Bernier has a streak of four straight starts, Reimer showed that he can still be the number one guy in Toronto. He will get another chance tonight vs. Carolina.
DAILY PRIME- OCTOBER 16, 2013: BIG NIGHT FOR BIG NAMES IN THE NHL primepucks.com Wed 10/16/13 9:22 AM
Toronto goaltender James Reimer is hanging tough in goal as he competes for the starting job against Jonathan Bernier. Last night he had 36 saves and was very sharp in the Leafs 4-1 win over Minnesota. The reality is that Toronto has two solid goaltenders that will likely share time depending on who has the hot hand. This greatly diminishes their fantasy value. Forward Mason Raymond had 2 goals for the Leafs and is having a solid season with 4 goals and 8 points in 7 games. He is worth picking up as a depth forward as he has formed some chemistry with Kessel....Buffalo finally managed to win a game 4-3 in a shootout over the Islanders. Ryan Miller was his old self in goal for the Sabres with a great game with 41 saves. But he is likely to have a tough year unless the team can provide some offensive support. Buffalo defenseman Christian Ehrhoff finally got on the scoreboard with 2 assists. We like Ehroff, but on this team he is a 4th defenseman at best....The Flyers dismal season continued last night as they lost to the Canucks 3-2. They are losing some tough matches as they adjust to new Head Coach Craig Berube's system. Vancouver forward Ryan Kesler had 2 goals, including the game winner, but has started off slow with only one point in the previous six games. Maybe he will heat up a bit now as we like him as a 70-point player.
Don't discount the Dupuis:
The Penguins beat the Oilers last night 3-2 as Sidney Crosby was his usual self with 3 assists, but it was teamate Pascal Dupuis who is interesting with a goal and an assist. Dupuis has six points in six games for Pittsburgh, and he is a great sleeper forward pick. If he is still available in your pool you should grab him immediately. Marc-Andre Fleury had 20 saves for the win, and he is now 5-0 with a 1.80 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. It looks like he is ready for a big year, but the Pens need him to play big in the playoffs; but in the regular season he is fantasy gold.
Teddy is ready:
We highlighted Teddy Purcell a few days ago, stating that he was getting a lot of top quality ice time for the Lightning. He did not disappoint last night with a goal and an assist in their 5-1 win over Los Angeles. Purcell now has 8 points in 6 games this year. Grab him if you can. The old war horse, Martin St. Louis, had a big night with 2 goals and an assist. This guy is simply amazing at his age and he remains a top fantasy forward.
Big night for the old guard:

Goalie Start: James Reimer gets the call for the Leafs. dailyfaceoff.com Tue 10/15/13 2:56 PM
This will be Reimer's first start since the home opener on October 5th, he was pulled after allowing four goals on 21 shots. Jonathan Bernier has clearly been the better of the two netminders so far, but a good start from Reimer tonight would go a long way.
THE GOALIE EDGE: 10/15/2013 primepucks.com Tue 10/15/13 1:38 PM
A tough win over the Islanders on Saturday night should have Pekka Rinne and the Nashville Preds heading in the right direction. They should be able to minimize Florida's scoring chances and outlast the Panthers in a tight defensive battle. Go Rinne... Edmonton should have a tough-go at it when they visit Pittsburgh tonight. It's the tale of two goalies, as Marc-Andre Fleury has been unbeatable in the crease for the Penguins, while Devan Dubnyk has struggled mightily for the Oilers. We are looking at a very lop-sided affair in favor of Fleury... Can James Reimer take the starting job over Jonathan Bernier in Toronto? A win over a Minnesota squad, which is playing in the second of back-to-back nights, would go a long way in helping his cause. Plenty of motivation will push Reimer toward the win column...Take Nabokov and the Isles over the struggling Sabres...Don't look now, but the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets might have a marginal edge over Detroit, given that they beat them 4 out of 5 times last season, and are coming off two days of rest. Meanwhile, the Wings could be due for a letdown after a tough road win over Boston yesterday. Take Bobrovsky and Columbus for the slight upset.
FANTASY MUST-STARTS
Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh vs. Edmonton
Semyon Varlamov, Colorado vs. Dallas
Pekka Rinne, Nashville vs. Florida
James Reimer, Toronto vs. Minnesota
Evgeni Nabokov, NYI vs. Buffalo
SLEEPER ALERT
Ondrej Pavelec, Winnipeg vs. Montreal
Sergei Bobrovsky, Columbus @ Detroit
DAILY GOALIE PICKS
Steve (5-8): Marc-Andre Fleury
Ray (5-8): Pekka Rinne
Mike (5-7): Semyon Varlamov
DAILY PRIME- OCTOBER 6, 2013: GOALIES GALORE & THE KID LINE IS ALRI... primepucks.com Sun 10/6/13 10:03 AM
It was a big night in the NHL yesterday with eleven games played. First some individual news; Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller sat out last night's game against Pittsburgh with a lower body injury. He is considered day to day....Columbus forward Cam Atkinson has been promoted to the top line, and he will play with Marian Gaborik and Brandon Dubinsky. Marc-Andre Fleury continues his good start allowing only 1 goal last night with 20 saves against the Sabres. Fleury has given up only one goal in two games. While they were admittedly against two teams that will likely struggle to score goals this season, New Jersey and Buffalo, still he looks good....Florida goaltender Tim Thomas came back to earth yesterday as he allowed 5 goals on 28 shots against the Blues. He was replaced by Jacob Markstrom who was no better giving up 2 goals on 6 shots. Thomas will quickly discover that the Florida defense is not comparable to the Bruins.
And The Children Shall Lead Them:
Last year young Montreal center Brendan Gallagher started on the top line between Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais. This year he finds himself on a line with two other youngsters, Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk. Last night this line was pure magic as they combined for six points against the Flyers, with each player getting two points. Gallagher didn't quite fit in last year on the top line, but he looks right at home with his young linemates. Keep an eye on this line as they could really develop into something special. They are all young and very talented.
Wild Night In Minnesota:
It was a wild game in Minnesota last night as the Ducks prevailed in overtime on a last second goal by Mathieu Perreault with literally only 5 seconds left in OT. Perrault had the goal and an assist, but he is not really fantasy worthy. The good news for the Wild was that their top line was outstanding all game long. Winger Zach Parise had two goals, while Jason Pominville had a power play goal, and Mikko Koivu had an assist. This could develop into one of the top lines in the NHL. Unfortunately for the Wild they do not have a lot of scoring depth behind this line.
Other Fantasy Game Notes:
St. Louis goaltender Jaroslav Halak pitched a shutout last night against Florida. Halak was rarely tested and he had only 19 saves, but this start is not going to hurt his chances of seperating himself from Brian Elliott in the race for the starting goaltender for the Blues. He should get the next few starts at worst. St. Louis...

Reimer looked good in his first start of the season allowing three goals on 37 shots. He is locked into a battle with Jonathan Bernier, who also played very well in his first start. Reimer dominated the Senators last season going 3-0-0 with 1.67 GAA, .960 SV% and one shutout.

UPDATE: Minnesota signed RW Jason Pominville to a 5-year contract extension. If I were playing on a line with Mikko Koivu and Zach Parise, I'd sign on the dotted line too. After seeing his former team, the Buffalo Sabres, play last night against Detroit, he may be happier than ever with a new contract....Boston signs solid D-man Dennis Seidenberg to a 4-year extension....ALL UPDATED IN THE GUIDE ALREADY!!!
THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED--With the Detroit Red Wings moving into the Eastern Conference, people have been saying how the competition is tougher in the East. I say that the perennial powerhouse Red Wings will benefit from not having to travel across multiple time zones so many times across a full NHL season just to play a game. All that travel takes its toll on one's body and mental toughness. You could reasonably expect better than average numbers from the Detroit players this season because of this factor, and you will probably notice the difference in their level of play as the season progresses. Detroit finished in the middle of the pack last season in terms of Power Play ranking. By the looks of last night's game, they are gunning for the top spot in that category as they sported a 1st power play unit of Daniel Alfredsson and Niklas Kronwall at the points with Johan Franzen, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk rounding out the unit. Although they were held off the board in last night's game, this group looks lethal.
More Game Notes: NEW SEASON, NEW PLAYERS, NEW BEGINNINGS--New acquisition G Jonathan Bernier looked very solid in net for the Toronto Maple Leafs as he turned away 31 of 32 shots on goal to earn the road victory against Steve Mason and the Philadelphia Flyers. Bernier has stepped out from behind Jonathan Quick's shadow in Los Angeles and now battles James Reimer for playing time in TO. Bernier raised the bar with last night's solid effort. Mason, who was acquired at the trade deadline last season, and Bernier are trying to prove to their teams that ...
