Virtanen skated as an extra forward in practice, Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Virtanen's ice time has declined in the past four games, going from 17:44 to 10:42 in his most recent outing. He ended his 11-game point drought in Sunday's win over Detroit, but that isn't enough to keep him out of the press box. It's not official that Virtanen will be a healthy scratch for Wednesday's match with Carolina, but all signs point to that being the case.

Virtanen ended his point drought with an assist in Monday's game versus Detroit.
EDGE Analysis
Virtanen's assist snaps an 11 game point drought, the longest drought he's endured since his rookie campaign in 2015-16. The marker brings him up to 19 points in 50 games, putting him two away from setting a career high.

Virtanen scored and also picked up an assist Thursday, en route to a 5-1 home win against the Blues.
EDGE Analysis
Virtanen was among three Canucks skaters to put a crooked number in the points column as a result of this commanding win. He's trailed off slightly since averaging a half-point per game during the first month of the season, but the B.C. native already has a career-high in goals with 11 through 38 games.

Virtanen has recorded two assists to go along with seven hits and 11 shots over the past five games.
EDGE Analysis
The B.C. native is trying to assert himself on a team that features a pair of showstopping phenoms in Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser, but Virtanen's been wildly inconsistent in 2018-19. Vancouver's first-round (sixth overall) pick from the 2014 draft has eight goals to complement four helpers and a plus-4 rating over 27 games, though he's only produced in back-to-back games twice this season.

Virtanen got his first goal in nine games in Monday's victory over Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Virtanen had only a single assist over that stretch, but was able to rip one past Devan Dubnyk to give his team the lead. His goal came on the power play, where he's been locked into the second unit. There are still high expectations for Virtanen to realize, and while it may take him another couple years to get there, he's currently on pace to reach 32 points, a dozen more than last season.

Virtanen scored a goal in Wednesday's season openers versus the Flames.
EDGE Analysis
After dealing with a back injury earlier in the week, Virtanen returned in time to suit up Opening Night. The winger logged just 13:32 of ice time, which may have been a strictly tactical choice, but could also have been related to his injury. The 2014 sixth-overall pick will look to better his 10-goal 2017-18 campaign and is off to a solid start.

Virtanen (back) is in the lineup for Opening Night on Wednesday against the Flames, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports.
EDGE Analysis
Virtanen was considered a game-time call for the matchup, but he appears ready to go as the Canucks go through warmups. The 22-year-old winger will look to build off a promising 2017-19 campaign, during which he racked up 10 goals and 10 assists, and is slotted to skate alongside Tyler Motte and Brandon Sutter.

Virtanen (back) will be a game-time decision for Wednesday's season opener versus the Flames, though coach Travis Green said he thinks the winger will play.
EDGE Analysis
Virtanen's status was called into question after he left Tuesday's practice early. A coach usually has strong intel on the severity of player injuries, but if you're depending on Vancouver's 2014 first-round (sixth overall) draft pick for Opening Night, it probably wouldn't hurt to see if Virtanen takes warmups.

Virtanen left practice early due to back spasms.
EDGE Analysis
There's no word if Virtanen will miss the Canucks opening night contest against the Flames, but his status should be monitored closely heading into Wednesday.

Virtanen agreed to terms on a two-year, $2.5 million contract with Vancouver on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Virtanen set career highs last season in games played (75), goals (10) and assists (10), while averaging just 11:59 of ice time. The 2014 sixth-overall pick should take on an expanded role with the club this season, especially following the departure of the Sedin twins. If the British Columbia native can see more time on the power play, his fantasy value would certainly be trending upward.
