UNDER THE RAYDAR: BO HORVAT-C, JARED McCANN-C, JAKE VIRTANEN-RW-Vancouver Canucks Usually when it comes to an UTR article, we focus on just one particular player at a time.  However, there seems to be a developing situation in Vancouver where the future is starting.  The Canucks knew that they had to prepare for the eventual demise and retirement of the Sedin twins.  The twins still possess the kind of talent that they will still be productive, but it’s only a matter of time before Vancouver will need to rely on the next generation of rising stars. BO HORVAT: Drafted #9 overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Horvat’s draft slot was obtained by trading away G Cory Schneider to the New Jersey Devils.  There was a lot of commotion that draft day in regards to the trade, especially from the Canuck fans who thought they should have gotten a lot more than just the 9th overall selection in the draft.  This is Horvat’s second season in the NHL with last year being a solid effort learning the NHL game by going 13-12-25 with a -8 in 68 games.  In 20 games so far this season, Horvat is 2-4-6 with a -9, so there is still some learning to do, but don’t forget that he is still only 20 years old.  In three seasons with the London Knights of the OHL, all the talented center did was 74 goals with 91 assists for a total of 165 points in 185 games.  Two of those seasons saw Horvat score 30+ goals and was a plus player in all three seasons.  If all goes according to plans, Horvat should be ready to break out in a year or two with the Sedins ready to step down as the top scoring unit.  Horvat will have plenty of offensive weapons at his disposal as Jared McCann and Jake Virtanen are getting their first tastes of NHL life this season. Stating with McCann, the 19 year-old seems to have a heavy shot as he has scored 6 goals in 8 games so far.  McCann scored 82 goals in 184 games in the OHL with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, so you know he is going to be force to reckon with in the near future.  And he also is an assist machine with 105.  Drafted with the 24th selection of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, you know there are high expectations for the center. Virtanen is another young talent that will one day a key weapon for the Canucks.  The former Calgary Hitman had a 45 goal season in 2013-2014 prompting his high selection in the draft. This 19 year=old right winger is off to slow start with just 1 goal and three assists in 16 NHL games, but the team is bringing him along slowly ...
