Oettinger made 26 saves Monday in the Stars' 6-2 win over the Avalanche in Game 5 of their first-round series.
EDGE Analysis
Wyatt Johnston scored just nine seconds into the game, setting a new Dallas postseason record, and Oettinger made sure his squad wouldn't lose the lead the rest of the way. After a bumpy performance in Game 1, the 26-year-old netminder has allowed three goals or fewer in four straight starts, and he'll carry a 2.58 GAA and a .914 save percentage this postseason into Game 6 on Thursday as the Stars look to advance to the second round.

Oettinger stopped 31 of 34 shots in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Avalanche in Game 4.
EDGE Analysis
The Stars' defense was leakier than usual, and Oettinger ended up with nearly a full game's worth of work in two periods. Casey DeSmith played in the final frame, and Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports Oettinger rested in the third frame and wasn't dealing with an injury. The series is even at 2-2, and Oettinger has allowed 11 goals on 123 shots over four games. He'll likely be back between the pipes on home ice Monday in Game 5.

Oettinger will defend the home crease in Wednesday's Game 3 against Colorado, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
After taking the loss in Game 1 of the Stars' first-round series, Oettinger was more effective during Monday's Game 2 overtime victory, turning aside 34 of 37 shots (.919 save percentage) to snap a five-game losing streak. The 26-year-old will attempt to remain effective as the Stars return home Wednesday.

Oettinger stopped 34 of 37 shots in Monday's 4-3 overtime win over the Avalanche in Game 2.
EDGE Analysis
As has happened plenty of times in the past, Oettinger came through in a game where the Stars needed him to be at his best. Even though his recent performances have left a lot to be desired, as he's now given up three or more goals in six straight outings dating back to the regular season, Oettinger at least did enough to carry the Stars to victory. This was his first win of any kind since April 3, and the Stars will continue to rely on him. The next two games of the series will be in Colorado on Wednesday and Saturday.

Oettinger was the first goalie to leave the ice ahead of Monday's Game 2, indicating he'll start in goal at home versus Colorado, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports, indicating he'll be in goal.
EDGE Analysis
Oettinger gave up four goals on 23 shots (.826 save percentage) in Game 1 on Saturday but figures to remain the No. 1 option in the crease. Still, another bad outing could lead the Stars to at least consider giving Casey DeSmith a look. During the regular season, the 26-year-old Oettinger went 36-18-4 in 58 appearances, his third straight year reaching the 35-win threshold. That consistency has likely afforded him some leeway in the playoffs.

Oettinger stopped 19 of 23 shots in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Avalanche in Game 1. The Avalanche also scored an empty-netter.
EDGE Analysis
Oettinger couldn't break with recent trends to open the postseason. His losing streak in Game 1s is now eight, dating back to the Stars' first-round series in 2022 versus the Flames. His recent play in 2024-25 is also discouraging -- Oettinger went 0-3-1 with 17 goals allowed over his last four regular-season contest. Combined with the absences of Jason Robertson (knee) and Miro Heiskanen (knee), and the Stars have an uphill battle on their hands already, especially now that they've squandered their home-ice advantage. Still, Oettinger figures to tend the twine for Game 2 on Monday.

EDGE Analysis
Oettinger enters the playoffs on a three-game losing streak, allowing 14 goals and 93 shots (.849 save percentage). He needs to turn things around against a tough Colorado team. The Avalanche ranked sixth in the NHL with 3.33 goals per game during the 2024-25 regular season.
