With Jaroslav Halak activated from the IR, the St. Louis Blues decided to send Jake Allen back to the AHL. It sounded like it would be either Halak or Allen on Monday after Brian Elliott had a rough Sunday, so this is a missed opportunity for the young netminder. In all likelihood, he'd see better chances for starts in future seasons, anyway.

Coach Ken Hitchcock said after Saturday's loss to Anaheim that Jake Allen would be in goal for Monday's game against the Kings if Jaroslav Halak isn't ready to return from his groin injury. Brian Elliott has struggled mightily in Halak's absence so Allen deserves a chance to start after he relieved Elliott against Nashville earlier in the week.

With Jaroslav Halak sidelined, it appears that Jake Allen will be called up from the AHL to back up Brian Elliott. The St. Louis Blues probably hope that Allen won't see too much action, however, as that would mean that Elliott would be struggling. Allen faces serious competition for playing time short-term, but should eventually fight for one of the team's two goalie spots at the NHL level.

Jake Allen saved all 33 Grand Rapids Griffins shots in the Peoria Rivermen's 3-0 victory Friday night. It was Allen's first shutout of the 2012-13 campaign. He has struggles this season, but now has a 2.38 GAA and .924 save percentage in five games this month.

Jake Allen has been sent to the minors. If there wasn't a lockout, Allen would be projected to serve as the Blues' third-string goaltender behind Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott. In other words, he would be in the minors anyways, unless Halak or Elliott suffered an injury.

The St. Louis Blues have recalled goaltender Jake Allen from the minors. The move is a precautionary one, precipitated by the injury to goaltender Jaroslav Halak. Halak left Saturday's game with a lower body injury after being run into by teammate Barret Jackman who collided with the goalie after trying to break up a pass to the Sharks' Martin Havlat. Allen was 13-20-2 this season with Peoria of the AHL with a 2.93 GAA and a .915 save percentage. The Blues are high on the 21-year-old as he was selected 34th overall in the 2008 Entry Draft and a reason the Blues dealt Ben Bishop to Ottawa at the trade deadline for a second round pick.

Jake Allen has been returned to the minors. The Blues made the move because Brian Elliott has recovered from his upper-body injury and is able to back up Jaroslav Halak in Game 1 versus San Jose on Thursday night. Allen will return to the Peoria Rivermen to try to get the team into the AHL postseason.

With Brian Elliott day-to-day (upper body), the Blues called up Jake Allen from Peoria. Allen will undoubtedly be insurance until Elliott receives the all-clear. The 34th-overall selection in the 2008 draft went 13-19-2 with a 2.84 GAA and .918 save percentage for the Rivermen this season. The 21-year-old has yet to appear in an NHL game.
