Jacob Trouba might be a freshman, but he's not playing like one at Michigan.
The 18-year-old blueliner was selected ninth overall by the Jets in last year's draft. Not only is he playing first-pairing minutes, he's also producing at a high level with eight points in nine games. "He's been an impact defenseman, come in and played pretty well," said Michigan coach Red Berenson. "I would say really well at times. But like any young defenceman, he's going to make mistakes. At some point, he tries to do too much but that's a good thing rather than a bad thing. As he gets more experience, he's going to be a terrific player." Regardless, this early success is great news for Trouba, who was considered a "project" when he was drafted.
