Jacob Trouba hasn't resumed skating since suffering a sprained neck on Oct. 18. He's been seen couple of times without his neck brace on, but he isn't expected to return any time soon. "My understanding is the brace is a part-time thing and he's not day-to-day," coach Claude Noel said. "He may have it off; he's not in a great deal of discomfort but he takes it off, I do know that."

Jacob Trouba could be out of action for as long as a month. He has a sprained neck and will have to wear a brace for at least two weeks following a self-inflicted injury when he missed a check and went face first into the boards. At least he did not break his neck, break a cheeckbone or sustain a concussion. The injury could have been much worse. Reserve Trouba immediately and look for a medium-term replacement.

Hopefully the promising rookie can continue to show promise at the NHL level at some point in the 2013-14 season. It's been a tough week for NHL injuries.

Trouba played most of those minutes after he was elevated to the team's second defense pairing with Zach Bogosian. He notched three blocks, one hit, one shot and a minus-1 rating in the match. Trouba hasn't picked up a point since he recorded two in the club's season opener, but he is getting plenty of responsibility as a 19-year-old blueliner.

Jacob Trouba's odds of winning the Calder Trophy improved from 33-to-1 to 25-to-1 in Vegas following his successful NHL debut on Tuesday night. The Jets will try to keep him on an even keel though. "What we have to keep in perspective is it's one game at a time, he's a young player," said coach Claude Noel. "So let's not heap all kinds of expectations on a young player. He's done well and we're happy for it." Trouba feels like he belongs in the NHL and his first game gave him plenty of confidence.

Jacob Trouba has shown that he's ready for the NHL during training camp. He has a great deal of potential and should develop into a reliable defenseman. Trouba hasn't guaranteed himself a roster spot just yet, but he looks like he could be in the Jets' opening night lineup.
