If you were willing to take a chance on the 33-year-old, he's made you look very smart this season.

As long as Brown is flanking Kopitar and logging big power-play minutes (2:39 per contest), the 33-year-old winger projects to remain a serviceable asset in most settings.

Brown will rejoin the team to find Marian Gaborik gone and Dion Phaneuf holding down the blue line. The 32-year-old Brown should retake a top-six role, in addition to suiting up on the power play, where he has been averaging 2:38 of ice time. The American has a mere one goal in his previous 15 outings, along with six helpers, 41 shots and 31 hits.

Brown was suspended by the Department of Player Safety for one game Sunday, for kneeing Mikhail Sergachev during a 4-3 defeat Saturday.

Brown received a match penalty and was ejected for the hit, which happened late in the second period. The collision came in the open ice, and as Sergachev attempted to dodge the check, Brown stuck his knee and elbow out to ensure contact and sent Sergachev flying to the ground. The league concluded that Brown had ample time to attempt a full body hit or lay off the Russian, and gave him a one game suspension for his lack of attempt to make a clean play. The 33-year-old will return for Thursday's game against Pittsburgh, and Nick Shore should bump up to the second line in his absence.

Brown will have a hearing with the Department of Player Safety regarding his hit on Mikhail Sergachev that resulted in an ejection Saturday, the Los Angeles Times reports.

EDGE Analysis

The ejection was earned after Brown kneed Sergachev during the second period, and was his second game misconduct within the last month -- Jan. 19 he boarded Justin Schultz, who exited the game after the altercation. Brown was only fined for the affair with Schultz, and the verdict for his incident with Sergachev should come before Los Angeles squares off with Carolina on Tuesday.

Brown fashioned a goal, an assist and a plus-3 rating in Saturday's 6-0 home rout over the Coyotes.

EDGE Analysis

Thanks to this huge performance, Brown increased his point total to 37 for the season, which counts as his highest output since dropping 57 combined goals and helpers in the 2011-12 season, when the Kings claimed the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history. His current shooting percentage (11.6) isn't amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but it's his best rate in years, and he's also benefited from playing three-and-a-half more minutes than 2016-17. Brown has probably done enough to warrant consideration in redraft leagues for the next fantasy campaign.

With 15 goals, 31 assists and 99 shots, the veteran winger is well on his way to his best offensive season since the 2011-12 campaign. Brown's 15.2 shooting percentage is also twice as high as any year-long mark he's recorded since then, however. While it's probably best to expect the puck luck to dry up sooner than later, playing with Anze Kopitar in all situations will likely mitigate the decline to a degree. Brown's 111 hits and plus-14 rating are also nice bonuses that add to his value in settings including the categories.
