Dennis Wideman was the best Calgary Flame in the team's 6-4 loss to Columbus Friday night.
He scored a goal, egistered an assist and was the game's second star for his efforts. Brian McGrattan, Curtis Glencross and Mickael Backland scored Calgary-s other goals. Jay Bouwmeester had a miserable night and did not enahnce his trade value with a minus four effort.

Dennis Wideman recorded an assist in Calgary's 4-1 victory on Wednesday.
Wideman a seven-game pointless slump. He has three goals and 11 points in 21 games this season. That's a pace he should be able to maintain and it makes him worth owning in standard leagues. However, his fantasy value is higher in leagues that also count blocked shots.

Dennis Wideman has enjoyed a strong start with Calgary.
He has registered two goals, seven points and 27 shots in eight games. "He has that poise with the puck that kind of puts opponents to sleep," head coach Bob Hartley said. "He makes the right decision. If he has the shot, he wants to shoot. If not, he always finds the open man." The Flames blueliner will be riding a four-game point streak heading into Saturday's match with Vancouver. He has picked up two goals and three assists over during that time.

Dennis Wideman recorded a goal and an assist for the Flames in a 4-1 win over Detroit Tuesday.
Wideman's goal was of the power play variety and he has now recorded six points in seven contests as a member of the Flames. It was a night of firsts for Calgary as both Jarome Iginla and Mark Giordano recorded their first goals of the season. Curtis Glencross also recorded his fourth marker of the campaign in the win.

The Calgary Flames were happy with their effort but not the result in a shootout loss to Chicago Saturday.
The Flames dropped a 3-2 decision to the Blackhawks but went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the NHL. "If we play (this) way we're going to win more games than we lose," predicted defenseman Dennis Wideman. "If we create that many chances, have that many shots ... we're going to be scoring more than three goals a game. I thought (Saturday) was a good bounce-back from the Colorado game. We were better in almost every area. We've been at home for a while now, and maybe we don't have the record we'd like - we'd certainly prefer the numbers were flip-flopped - but I think it'll be good for us to get out on the road now. And hopefully get some wins." Wideman has a goal and three assists in six games thus far with only one assist not coming on the power play. We suggest picking him up if you are looking for scoring on the blueline.

Dennis Wideman has been a big help for the Calgary Flames with the man advantage.
Calgary ranks sixth this season with a 29.4% power-play success rate. Wideman has personally chipped in with two power-play assists, but Flames coach Bob Hartley thinks he's done even more than the numbers imply. "Puck control. Vision," said Hartley. "Every other team, they really respect his shot. Obviously, if they don't pay attention to him, he's going to shoot. We all know the quality of his shot. And if they pay attention to him, that opens other guys. He's bringing us a totally new dimension." Wideman leads the Flames in total power-play ice time.

Dennis Wideman has already been traded mid-season twice, so he has some experience adjusting to a new team on the fly.
Wideman will have to do just that because he won't get to play in even one exhibition game with the Calgary Flames before their season opener. "I think coaches do a really good job of explaining their system and what they'd like you to do pretty quick," Wideman said. "Then it's just up to me to get it and listen to what they're saying. There's usually a feeling-out process, but we've got, hopefully, seven days of camp where we'll get some intrasquad games and game-like situations so we can get a feel for what he's looking for." He signed a five-year, $26.25 million contract with them over the summer, but obviously the lockout delayed his debut.
