David Jones is dealing with a slight knee injury which he suffered Tuesday at practice, so he won't play Wednesday night. Coach Joe Sacco said he might go with 11 forwards and seven defensemen against Calgary, which would place recent call-up Tyson Barrie in the lineup.

David Jones was a healthy scratch for the second time in three games Sunday. After back-to-back 20 goal seasons, Jones has only three goals and seven points in 27 games with a poor minus-11 rating. He should not be in your starting lineup at this time.

David Jones will be a healthy scratch Wednesday when the Avalanche host Dallas. Coach Joe Sacco had this to stay about the decision: "In Jonesie's case, we've been real patient with him and trying to let him work his way out of the slump he's been in. But the bottom line is, I've got to put some guys in there that I think can maybe provide us with a little more at this time." He hasn't registered a point in nine straight games and has only seven points in 26 contests this year to go with a minus-10 rating.

He needs to get his game going," Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said. "He's a big-bodied winger. He's got to play physical. He's got to win one-on-one puck battles. He's got to get going, and I have to find a way to get him going. He needs to be a bigger part of our team, and he can be." Jones has seven points and a minus-10 rating in 23 games this season.

David Jones has only three goals this season as the Avs hit the halfway mark of their season. Jones had 20 goals and 37 points last season and a lot more was expected out of him this season, certainly more than three goals. If he is on your roster, reserve him until he is able to start scoring again.

David Jones makes the most of his goals, as his second of 2013 was also his second game-winner. He notched the only tally in the Colorado Avalanche's 1-0 OT win against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday. Considering his price tag, it's tough to stomach the fact that he has just five points in 2013. On the bright side, he has three of those points in his last two games, so maybe he's heating up.

David Jones has just one goal and two points in 11 games after inking a four-year/$16 million extension over the summer. "As far as the contract, it's definitely in the back of my mind," Jones said. "I understand why people are frustrated. ... But I can't really let that bother me. More than the contract, I just want to win. And if I'm not producing, I'm not helping the team." Jones should bounce back and he should be monitored because he might be in line for a strong hot start. That being said, when the dust settles, he isn't likely to get more than 15-20 points this season.
