Daniel Alfredsson potted a goal in Ottawa's 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins Thursday night.
The face of the Ottawa Senators is one of the leading candidates for a bounce back season. However, the players around him have not gotten much better during the offseason but a healthy Jason Spezza back in the lineup will help immensely. David Runblad scored the winning goal on the power play with helpers coming from Jason Spezza and Sergei Gonchar. Milan Lucic was the only Boston player who was able to beat Craig Anderson. He made 39 saves in the win. Tim Thomas was in nets for the Bruins and stopped 18 shot tonight.

Daniel Alfredsson will play in Friday's preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Alfredsson had back surgery in the off-season and he hasn't played since February, so Friday's game will be another big step towards him shaking off the rust. He's worth keeping a close eye on during training camp.

Daniel Alfredsson, who had off-season back surgery, said he's feeling "better than I expected."
Alfredsson took part in a Senators' scrimmage on Saturday and assisted on Milan Michalek's game-winning overtime goal. He hasn't played in a real NHL game since February 7th, but it looks like he should be fine for the Senators' season opener. We'll let you know if his status changes.

Daniel Alfredsson (back) was able to fully participate in the Senators' informal practice on Tuesday.
Alfredsson was involved in every drill over the 70-minute on-ice session before joining his teammates in a scrimmage. Although taking part in a pre-training camp session and playing in a regular season game are obviously two different things, this is a very encouraging sign. He hasn't played since February 7th and was limited to just 54 games last season. We'll keep you posted, but for now, consider him probable for the season opener.

Daniel Alfredsson skated for the first time on Tuesday since undergoing back surgery in June.
"It felt good to be back on the ice today," he said after the session. "I was on for maybe an hour, an hour and 20 (minutes), did some drills and played a little bit of a scrimmage. It was fun. I was tired, but everything held up well and the back felt fine." Alfredsson is hopeful that he will be able to attend training camp next month. The Ottawa captain suited up in 54 games last season and at the age of 38 his fantasy stock appears to be heading downhill.

The Ottawa Senators are expected to add Dave Cameron to their coaching staff for next season.
He will serve as an assistant to recently hired head coach Paul MacLean. Cameron alluded to the hiring at banquet for the OHL's Mississauga St. Michael's Majors, where he coached this past campaign, on Saturday. "It's just a matter now of crossing some T's and dotting some I's," he said. "The one thing I've always said is that coaches are no different than players in terms of wanting to get to the National Hockey League. I'm really excited and humbled to get the chance to go to the best league in the world. You know, I was fortunate enough to make it as a player and now I'm really excited to be going back as a coach."
