Boyle picked up a power-play goal Saturday in a 3-2 win over the Capitals. It's his first goal of the postseason. He caught a break when the Caps hit the referee when they attempted to clear the puck. The biscuit stayed in the zone, trickled to Boyle and he pounded it through a screen and into the top corner. He played 17:41 and looks no worse for wear after that hit at end of Game 1.

Boyle collected an assist in Saturday's regular-season finale against the Capitals. Boyle was one of the few players on the Presidents' Trophy-winning Rangers who didn't meet expectations heading into the season. A fractured hand suffered in his team debut resulted in any early stint on injured reserve, and Boyle wasn't really able to recover, finishing with his lowest point total (20) in a non-lockout year since 1999-000, when he played in just 13 games as a youngster with the Panthers. While Boyle was able to offset the stark decline in points to an extent with his plus-18 rating, he's no better than the team's third-best offensive threat from the blue line entering the postseason, ranking behind Ryan McDonagh and Keith Yandle in that regard.

Boyle snapped an 18-game goal drought with a first-period tally and added an assist while going plus-3 in Thursday's 5-1 win over Ottawa. Boyle's been a valuable and reliable member of the Rangers' blue line, but the offense has not really been there -- even with Thursday's production, he owns only 19 points in 56 games this season. At least nine of those points have been goals, so Boyle's threatening to reach double digits in that category for the sixth time in his career.

Boyle collected a first period assist in Wednesday's 3-1 win over Washington.s The point marks Boyle's first in nine games, the second such point-scoring drought of the season for the veteran defenseman. While eight goals and a plus-14 rating from a blue liner is nothing to shake a stick at, with just 16 points through 49 games, it's safe to say Boyle is having arguably the worst season of his 16-year NHL career and fantasy owners should probably steer clear until he shows more consistent production.

Boyle (illness) will not play Saturday against the Coyotes, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. The unspecified illness will cost Boyle his 17th game of the season -- he missed 14 after suffering a broken hand in the opener and another two due to illness -- opening the door for John Moore and Matt Hunwick to both step into the lineup.
