Anderson was expected to get the night off, but the Capitals high-powered offense made short work of that plan as the 37-year-old relieved Anders Nilsson of the netminding duties in the second period. With little offensive support coming now that Matt Duchene, Mark Stone and Ryan Dzingel have been all been traded, no Ottawa netminder is a safe fantasy play at this point.

Anderson stopped 33 of 35 shots in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Flames.

While there was little Anderson could do on Mikael Backlund's opening goal, Ottawa's starter would like to have Austin Czarnik's game-winning goal with 41 seconds left in regulation back. Sunday's loss is Anderson's eighth straight defeat and drops the 37-year-old's record to 14-20-3 with a 3.53 GAA and .905 save percentage. His last win came back on Dec. 17.

Anderson will protect the home cage in Sunday's game versus the Flames, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.

Anderson has made only six starts since the calendar flipped to 2019, and he's lost each outing in regulation and posted a brutal 3.55 GAA in that span. Calgary will be a serious test as it ranks second in the league with 3.66 goals per game and it has won four straight. The Senators make it tough for their goaltenders to win with limited offensive support, and they won't have their three top-scoring forwards due to trades. Anderson carries a ton of risk in the fantasy realm.

Anderson stopped 37 of 40 shots in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Blue Jackets.

The Senators seemed deflated seeing Matt Duchene in a visitor's jersey after Friday's big trade, leaving their veteran netminder high and dry and wasting his solid performance. The 37 saves were the most for Anderson since Dec. 6, but he's now lost seven straight starts, and his 3.58 GAA would be the worst of his career without a huge finish to the season.

Anderson will defend the home net Friday against the Blue Jackets.

EDGE Analysis

Mired in a slump, Anderson retakes the cage in search of his first win since Dec. 17. He has only appeared in the crease six times since then, but Anderson owns just a 4.15 GAA and .876 save percentage in those contests. While he's 0-2-0 at home, Anderson's 2.59 GAA and .907 save percentage provide a glimmer of hope that he will bust out of it, though the Senators are resting most of their key offensive contributors ahead of Monday's trade deadline and already traded Matt Duchene, who will suit up for Friday's foe.

Anderson came on in relief of Anders Nilsson, stopping 26 of 30 shots in an 8-7 loss to Chicago on Monday.

EDGE Analysis

This wasn't the way Anderson wanted to hit this milestone, but it happened when he came in after just 13:22 of action and four Blackhawks goals. Giving up four of his own doesn't suggest that he's anywhere near back to form after an eye injury, however, and it's probably best to avoid him for the time being until he shows he's back to full strength.
